Post by: judydawn on August 31, 2011, 06:18:21 am
Name of Recipe: Goulash & Noodles - converted from my favourite recipe from Elizabeth Sewell's Casserole Book 1972
Number of People: 4 serves
Ingredients:
2 onions, peeled and cut in half
1 large clove of garlic, peeled
1 green capsicum, deseeded and cut into quarters
15 g olive oil
35 g butter
550 g blade steak, diced and defatted weight
3 tblspns plain flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pepper to taste
300 mls beef stock
1 teaspn beef stock powder
2 tspns sweet paprika
2 tblspns tomato paste
300g green beans, sliced (can use frozen)
2 carrots, sliced 5mm thick

Preparation:
Place onions, garlic and green pepper into the TM bowl and chop 3 sec/speed 5.
Add oil and butter and saute 5 mins/100o/reverse/speed 1.
Toss the diced steak in the seasoned flour and add to the bowl.
Cook 5 mins/100o/reverse/speed 1.
Add the liquid stock, stock powder, sweet paprika & tomato paste and cook 35 mins/90o/reverse/speed 1.
Add the beans and carrots and continue cooking 20 mins/90o/reverse/speed 1.
If there is too much liquid, continue cooking for 5 mins/100o/reverse/speed 1/MC out.
Place in to the thermoserver whilst you cook the noodles or leave until the meal is needed and reheat later.

Poppyseed Noodles - Cook 150 - 300 g spiral pasta in 1200 g boiling water for 12 minutes. Strain through the steaming basket then place back into the TM bowl together with 20 - 30 g butter and 1- 2 tblspn poppy seeds.

Kiki J - I made it with some pasta, steamed broccoli and cauliflower. The only change I made was to swap the beans for peas, as my little ones have a real aversion to beans, for some reason. I thought it was delicious - really tasty - will be making it again!

Thanks CC, it was just like the original oven cooked version  - haven't made that for years but can still remember what it tasted like.

Hi Judy - thanks for this recipe!

I made it for the boys tonight, with some pasta and steamed broccoli and cauliflower. The only change I made was to swap the beans for peas, as my little ones have a real aversion to beans, for some reason... must be all that green!!

I thought it was delicious - really tasty - will be making it again!

Tonight's dinner WAS leftovers, actually!

My boys had an entree of tomato and lentil soup, followed by the goulash and noodles! Oh, and then icecream.

Doing it tough in our house!!
