Hello, My name is Jo, I originally come from England but my family and I have lived in Australia for 7 years.
I went to a demo about 1 month ago and just loved the Thermomix. I did lots of research online, went to a cooking class and also had a demo at my house. I passed all this info on to my mother-in-law in the UK and she also did lots of research and had her own demo too. We are now both proud owners of the Thermomix and are delighted with it. I have three children aged 5, 10 and 16 who are all fussy eaters but didn't let this put me off buying the Thermomix. I am not the best cook, mainly because I don't get much time to prepare after running around after the kids. I am now cooking things I would never have tried before and loving every minute of it. There are plenty of ingredients that I have never bought before but I'm slowly getting used to knowing where to find them in our local supermarket. My aim is to cook healthier food for our family and reduce the packets/tins etc and enjoy what I'm doing at the same time. My husband was the hardest person to convince but since I've been dishing him some gorgeous new recipes I think he has finally realised the Thermomix is great.
I have had mine 2 weeks and have made an endless list of things already. The first thing I did was make the vegetable stock concentrate, vanilla syrup for my latte's, quick chicken curry from the EDC, bread, buttermilk bread, soups, sundried tomato dip, basil pesto, I could keep going but I'd be here forever, i've literally tried so many things in such a short time. Love it!!!
I can also share the recipes with my mother-in-law in England and still cook some of our old time English favourites. Fantastic.
I look forward to getting tips from some of you more experienced users.
:) :)

Dear Jo,
Welcome! My tip is check out the nooks and crannies of the forum and practise, practise, practise your cooking. I too was an anxious non-cook, who dreaded having to do things in the kitchen, but with Thermomix I'm flying.
On the http://www.thermomix.com.au (http://www.thermomix.com.au) website you will find a list of cooking classes. Hopefully there'll be one near you, so you can go along to a class or two and learn even more about how to get the most out of your investment.
Enjoy!

Hi Jo, welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are just doing fine to me - just keep reading and seeing what our members are cooking each day for some great ideas. Love it that both you and MIL have more than just the DH/Son/children in common now and I can imagine all the emails going back and forth to the UK. You will bounce off each other I'm sure and it won't be long and you will be sharing some of your tips with us. Well done, enjoy.

Hi Jo and welcome to the forum.

Welcome Jo. Sounds like you will be sharing lots of recipes with your DMIL. Would love to see some of your old time favorite recipes. We all love seeing new recipes to try out.

Hi everyone, thanks for your kind words. I've been checking this forum out since the day I went to my first demo and keep looking at your tips, ideas and recipes. I've just made the Red Thai Chicken Curry out of the EDC and it was absolutely delicious.
I did transfer my Yorkshire Pudding mix into the TM31 measurements if anyone likes them. It took 30 seconds to mix on speed 5, and they rose to perfection. Don't think I should publish it just yet as I'm only a beginner and I'd be worried it wouldn't turn out.
Look forward to keeping in touch with everyone on the forum.
Jo :) :)

Jo, if your Yorkies worked for you, they will work for us too so go ahead and post your recipe.

welcome Joanne, you'll be able to have those Yorkshire Puds with Roast Beef (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=5805.0;wap2) cooked in the TM. (hope that link is ok, it was weird when I was just looking at it).

This (http://www.ukthermomix.com/recshow.php?rec_id=136) is a better link CP - the original recipe from the UK site then check out this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=5692.0) thread where we have actually done the recipe and posted pictures. Newcomers might be interested to see the results.

Hi and welcome to the forum Joanne. :)

Hi I'm not sure how to find my way around this forum yet, it's harder than learning how to use the TMX.
Yorkshire Pudding Mix (hope it works)
110g Plain Flour
260g Milk
Pinch of Salt
3 Large eggs,
Place all ingredients in bowl and mix on speed 5 for 30 seconds.
Remember to make your oven really hot, I still use a bit of lard in each of my pattie tins (my mum's way), i've tried oil but they don't seem to work as well, the lard/oil should be really hot so it's steaming and as soon as you get the tins out of the oven pour the mix as quickly as you can and get them straight back in the oven. Usually takes about 20 mins depending on your oven. I will attach a photo tomorrow so you can see what they should look like.
My DMIL has a recipe in her UK EDC and it is slightly different to mine so I will get a copy from her and post that too and maybe you could try both and see which turns out best.
I added sausage to these Yorkshires because my kids love Toad in the Hole but this is what the Yorkshire Puddings should look like.

Well done on posting your first recipe Jo. If you would like to post it under recipes then go to the home page and find the heading to where you want to post the recipe like starters and snacks, then start a new topic. Place your recipe there so everyone will be able to find it easier.
Hope that helps.
And thanks for sharing.

That's the first time I've seen individual Toad in the Hole Jo - only ever seen pictures of it all cooked in a baking dish. Looks great. Did you just sit the cooked sausages on the cooked Yorkie or did you put raw sausages on top of the batter? Probably a dumb question but someone had to ask it :P :P :D :D

Hi and welcome Jo. My DH will thank you for the Yorkshire pudding recipes as he absolutely loves the stuff. My mum made fantastic YP and in my eyes I have never been able to emulate them. I will give these a go.

Hi, with the toad in the hole, I part cooked the mini sausage first in the George Forman, then when the oil had warmed up in the pudding tins I placed each sausage in and poured the batter straight over the top, it is a bit fiddly because the pudding tins are so small so if you do have the large 4 hole tins that would be easier. My DMIL is bringing me some 4 hole yorkshire pudding tins from UK when she visits in November.
This recipe actually came from a Jamie Oliver show when I first arrived in Australia and they have never failed. Good luck, hope they work for you because they truly are delicous covered in gravy. My kids can't get enough of them. That batter mix usually makes between 20 - 24 small ones.

Hey Jo, and welcome, as an ex-pat but now a True Blue Aussie it's nice to see some food from home.
When we first arrived I used to dish up Toad in the Hole for the kids' friends, they were terrified as they thought I was serving up Cane Toads, well you should have seen their faces when I told them they were having Spotted Dick for afters!
Have fun!
