Have just spent a week away in a caravan park in south australia, only to see a lady washing up her Thermomix in the communal washing area. How surprised I was, I was too worried to take mine, due to the feet and the sensitive scales, and all the bouncing that goes on in a caravan whilst on the move. Her husband said they had rigged up a foam box and sponge, for travelling. Will give it some thought next time we go away, (Not that that happens very often)
-
How easy to start a conversation with a fellow Thermomixer pumpkin pie - she would have been pleased to chat to you too. Is she a forum member?
-
Pumpkinpie isn't it exciting when that happens? I saw a lady in Kununurra a couple of weeks ago and was very excited. (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=7213.0) She agreed to be photographed and put on the forum. It was the only time I saw or even heard a TMX.
My TMX has just completed 11,000km in the caravan and still goes great. I actually invested in a carry bag so feel I have no worries carrying it. Take it next time. :D

Didn't get to ask her JD, as I was on the way to a meeting so didn't have lots of time, and didn't see her again after that, which was a pity.

Cookie, do you carry the TMX in the car or in the bag in the van, we tow our van with a ute, so not a lot of room for extra in it for carrying other things?
-
My TMX goes in his bag in the van. We have a big space under our bed and he lives there for travelling. If that's full hie goes beside the bed where he doesn't move around.
-
I want to know how I should carry my TM in the caravan. Did you sit yours on its feet or on its side? I don't want to do any damage on my precious TM.
Thanks.
-
I carry mine in the caravan, in a tmx bag, under the bed. I think a bag is worth it as it has little holes for the legs to go in so as to not affect the scales.
-
Thanks for this info Cookie1 - sounds like I need to get the bag.
-
I take my thermy regularly down south and is put in the carry bag made especially for it. I have never had any problems (touch wood)
-
Thanks Augusta for your response.
We are currently on the Liver Cleansing Diet so will need the TM in the van for our vegie/fruit juice each morning.
DH has just turned over the TM and reckons he can make a pad for it to sit in with cutouts for the three feet out of a foam kickboard. I just checked the official TM website and you can't buy the bag anyway. I think it's a bonus sometimes if you host a demo - is that correct?
Do those of you who travel with your TM take the Varoma also? I'm thinking really hard about this because of all the bits - not that they weigh much.
Thanks in anticipation.
-
Ambro0 . . .Have just sent you a pm . . :D
-
Does anyone know where or how I can buy the proper bag for my Thermomix?
I would prefer the black bag not the green.
There are no bags on the website to purchase.
Thanks
-
The website would have been my suggestion. Perhaps you could ring HO and ask.
My TMX has done thousands of km. it won't be coming with us this trip as we have no power and the roads are pretty rough. I will be lost without it though.
-
I bought my bag a couple of years ago from head office in perth and it wasn't a promotional thing. I'm lucky I suppose because it is black, I think the green ones might have come out later. In answer to your varoma question, I always take that with me as well as it really takes up no more room than the thermy itself.
-
Contact your consultant if you'd like a bag. The heavy duty black bags, that consultants use, retail for $120 and the coloured ones (less durable) are cheaper.
-
Thanks for those who responded to my questions. Your assistance is much appreciated.

Well, I finally have my Thermomix Bag and we are heading off around Oz next week with the TM safely stowed under the bed.
On our last trip, I stowed the TM in a cupboard on the mat my DH made out of a pool kickboard. Unfortunately, I didn't take the Varoma because of nowhere to stow it safely.
I have been cooking a lot in the TM and Varoma while I've been home for the last six weeks and am convinced that I will get lots of use from it - provided our 2kva generator can provide enough power.
Can anyone tell me if they have used their TM when free-camping and using the generator?
Thanks in anticipation.
-
Hi ambro , Obbie is our generator expert and she advised that a 2Kva generator was the way to go so you should be fine I think she mentioned pure sinewave too, if the generator is reasonable new it will be fine , we are heading off up the top and across the middle in a couple if weeks but I have to leave my Thermie at home , no room and we only take a 1kva generator for emergencies when there is no sun for the solar panels. Good luck and have a great holiday.
-
Have a wonderful trip ambro and hope you are able to utilise TMX to the max while you are away. ;D
-
I've used my thermomix with a 2 kva generator Ambro0. I hope you have a wonderful trip. We've been around a couple of times now and also some trips to separate parts of the country.
AB I hope you have a wonderful trip too. If you are at Alice Springs both the east McDonalds and the west McDonalds are wonderful. So is Chamber's Pillar and Rainbow Valley.
-
Have a great trip ambro0 and enjoy cooking with the TM when on the road. ;D
AB have a great trip too. ;D
-
Thank you all for your helpful advice and good wishes. We are heading for Alice Springs and then to Darwin for our big lap. Might run into you AB. Thanks Cookie for your tips - going to Kings Canyon too.
-
hello 2 KVA Inverter generator, make sure its a inverter :) :)
-

ambro0 I have kept this (http://www.domesticdivaunleashed.com/camping-on-the-failsafe-diet-with-a-thermomix) in my files after it was discussed a while back on here. Scroll down to the "Notes from my husband" section for technical info.

Cookie is an encyclopaedia when it comes to travelling round Oz :D. More ideas for what to do round Alice Springs on our website here (http://www.trublutravelling.com.au/town/nt-alice-springs-alice-springs-0870?A=SearchResult&SearchID=7364347&ObjectID=1442158&ObjectType=35) (shameless plug but could not resist sorry ;D)
Enjoy your travels ambro0 and AB :) :)

Why not plug your website Gayle. I love it, it has been very kind to me too. ;D. My only disappointment in not going to Monkey Mia was that I couldn't post lots of lovely photos for you. :-\
Ambro0 be aware there is no mobile coverage at King's Canyon and the phone boxes are often out of order. The walk across the top of King's Canyon is WOW, but if you aren't up to that the walk along the canyon floor is beautiful too. You may be lucky enough to hear dingoes howling there, although I didn't. The only place I have heard them is at The Dig Tree about 70 km from Innamincka.
-
Many thanks djinni373 and cookie1 for your extra info. I kindof expected there to be no mobile reception at Kings Canyon - like a lot of places I imagine. We have decided not to bother with a sat phone and just travel with a PLB in case of emergency. Would anyone like to comment on that choice?
On our recent 3 months in Tassie, I was surprised to find how good the mobile reception was, particularly on the west coast.
Now to get cracking with making pumpkin soup to freeze and croyvac our chicken and fish pieces for the trip through the outback.
Thanks again.
-
Ambro0 you will be amazed where your mobile will work. Especially if you are coming down the west coast where there are lots of mines.
A PLB is a good idea. We took one when we did the Birdsville Track last year. Otherwise we haven't worried too much. Are you really going into remote areas? How remote?
Your trip sounds lovely. We have done most of our travelling in 2-4 month steps. Hopefully you will be able to drop in occasionally and tell us how things are going.
-
Have a wonderful trip Ambro0 and you too AB.
Cookie, we had a dingo come and sit at the edge of our camp site at Kings Canyon. He just wandered in and sat himself down as if he owned the place. He didn't even move when DH went and talked to him. ;D

Hi Cookie1,
This is our first adventure into the real outback. (We just did the Darling River Run which was dirt/bull dust and black soil but not what I call the outback!)
We are hoping to travel the Plenty Highway (I think it's dirt and sand, no black top) from Boulia to Alice Springs. Will check with the locals in Boulia and try to tag along with others travelling the same route. Otherwise, we will head up to Mt Isa and go west for there and decide if we go down to Alice Springs etc when we get to Tenant Creek.
We are trying not to travel the same road more than once. Then, after Kununurra, we want to travel the Gibb River Road and see as much as we can in the Kimberleys. Then, we'll probably hug the coast towards Perth and then spend some weeks in the s/w corner of WA.
Have no idea how long we'll be away - as I said, it's going to be an adventure for us.
-
Fantastic trip. You will love Kununurra, don't forget to go up Kelly's Knob.
No Bungle Bungles this trip?
The Gibb river road is great too. I was terrified the first time we did it many. many years ago. But it is a walk in the park.
When you get to Perth send me a pm and we can perhaps arrange a coffee with a few of the people here. If you wish of course. You may be staying away from hustle and bustle, we usually do.
-
AB and AO have a fantastic trip, stay safe and check in with photos when you can...please.
-
Yes Cookie1, We are going to the Bungle Bungles - sorry I forgot to mention it - there's just so much to see. We are struggling with the airfare to see the Horizontal Falls but I guess, it will be a once in a lifetime experience so we will most likely do it. Apparently the cruise on Lake Argyle is a must-do too! So much to see and do...... Will stay in touch and thanks for the suggestion about a catchup in Perth. Sounds like fun!! Will see how we are situated. Apparently there's a good park to stay at - Karinyup (so we've been told anyway!) I've roasted my pumpkin and carrots in the oven, ready to make the soup.
-
Thanks everyone, we head off in about 17 sleeps not that I'm counting, we are heading up through Birdsville , to the Savanah Way across to Kunanurra , Gibbs River Road and Mitchell Falls , Broome then down to Port Headland then inland ! Down to the Central Hwy across to Alice and then who knows, this a short version of the itinery. We have a Travelander on the tray if our Landcruiser Ute. Annette we may meet up I will be checking in on the forum whenever I have coverage, we are buying a Sat phone as this time we will be travelling a lot on our own, expensive but peace of mind hopefully like insurance we won't need it . We plan to be away may be three or four months maybe longer .
-
Have fun on your adventures girls and stay safe. Hope you both manage to check in from time to time and bump into each other along the way as well.
-
The holidays sound wonderful. The information centre at Birdsville has lots of info AB. If you stay in the caravan park there, check out the strength of the toilet flushes. They are more powerful than the ones on planes.
Ambro0 when you fly to the Horizontal Falls make sure there there is plenty of tide movement. Some friends went when it was neap tides and were disappointed.
Enjoy ladies, I am jealous.
-
Thanks for the tip Cookie1.
-
Thanks cookie have taken some notes, we will take a flight over the Kimberley's too, my too do list is growing might be away longer.
-
I wish we could pop up and say hello and have a little holiday up there too. We have the Model A national ( now international) meet in Busselton so it is not on this year.
