Hi
I have had my Thermie for about 3 or so weeks now and doing ok.
My friend has bought one and is NOT loving it she has had so many failures she is so dishearten .
She wants to get rid of it ...
I am not sure how to help , I have told her about this forum but wondered if anyone could add some suggestions.

My advice wold be to contact her dealer. I am sure the dealer would want to know and be there to support her. If you had the same dealer as your friend, it might be a nice thing to let the dealer know yourself, so she could get to your friend and provide the support she needs.

Is she cooking recipes from the forum or from the recipe books ? Suggest she try some of our recipes and perhaps give her copies of a few of the recipes you have had success with or get her to come over and watch/help you make a few things - once she sees something that is successful she may change her mind deltamushworn. Sounds like she just needs a bit of encouragement and help from someone who is going better than she is. I was a bit slow getting going and had many failures before I got the gist of it, well actually finding this forum was the biggest factor in getting me on the right track.

I have a friend who is a little like that. She knows she should use it more but thinks it is quicker and easier to do things the old way. It is rather sad. See if you can persuade her to make one thing each week (or hopefully 2). Maybe she could use recipes that you have had success with.
Maybe get her to join the forum and we could encourage her, and she can ask lots of silly questions.

I have told her most of all that , she has had the consultant out so fingers crossed, she is an excellent cook, I have talked to her and tried to encouraged her, I think she may have turned a bit of a corner and I am glad :) thank you all

deltamushworn it takes a little while to adjust to teh different way of cooking which is totally different than traditional cooking obviously...it has taken most of us an adjustment period until it clicks and we can really get going..its not that common to have immediate success especially for those who were good cooks traditionally...at first you need to follow to the letter successful recipes...this forum has alot of members contributing and commenting on recipes...find ones that have been quite successful and get her to try those first...once she gets used to the thermie way of cookingim sure she will really love it and start converting some fav recipes of her own...

Tell her to come to us for support. However, here in Germany, and no doubt around the world too, many dealers sell, get their commission and run a mile. Sad but true. I am not obliged as a demonstrator to give any extra support after the sale, no delivery demo, varoma demo or the like but I would always be on the end of the telephone or happy to help wherever I could. I believe it is the right thing to do. Has her dealer phoned your friend to check on how she is going? Mine never did!

I know what you mean Lee, i joined Thermomix 2 months ago and when I asked my GL what support I need to offer to my new found customers she shrugged her shoulders. apparently you don't you send the details to the HQ and they add these persons to a monthly newsletter!! that s it. So now I keep my own database and each Monday I send out an email with things I have cooked with my thermie during the weekend or that week.
To answer your question DMWorn your friend needs to start with easy recipes and tell herself to only try one thing/day. I find there is so much you want to try that you can become a bit giddy doing it all in one go that you end up rushing into it not following recipes properly and ruin your ingredients and any chance of getting good results. I hope she will find it ok soon.

Yes I believe that is exactly what she did, too much too quickly, I did a lot to start with but followed the recipes... Even it that nearly killed me lol. But now I have a feel for it I'm still learning but am taking it In my stride now....
She has had a varoma demo and her consultant has been out to see her she is now better and more confident than me lol..... So great news .

Some of us had such lousy consultants that they were adopted by another consultant. Kathryn is the best. :-*

Kathryn is wonderful. No doubt about that! And Jo too. I chatted to her online before I purchased through her website and she helped me so much. And I receive both of their emails regularly which is super because they are most importantly in English and I don't have to work so hard to read them.

I got rid of mine by becoming my own consultant. If you find a better one why not?

I don't think we've heard from ours in the last year, apart from once to invite the missus to a cooking class that was at a bad time (work wise) and nothing since.

i don't see why not, and everyone is perfectly free to buy their tm from whomever they want.

To be honest I don't think people know how to be a good consultant. Unfortunately once we sign up we become a independent business owners so we need to do everything from marketing to after sales support and everything else in between, it is no mean feat and if you re not consistent and do not reach a certain level of income to incentivise you is rather demoralising so you won't try at all. To be honest Internet and forums like these should eliminate the need of one but it is always nice to keel some sort of communication with like minded people.

I'm not a consultant, and maybe I've missed this bit when I did think about becoming one. Is there any financial incentive for a consultant once they've sold the machine? I've got a great consultant who is always helpful and only an email away. But I've always assumed that she makes her income on a sale, rather than for providing ongoing service.
Having said that, this forum has been of enormous value to me in after-sales support. More than a single consultant could have been, because there are so many different voices and so much experience here.

as far as i know, consultants only make money selling tms and not by providing after sales support. i never heard from the consultant who sold me my tm after the sale and wished that i had bought my tm from my current consultant because she is absolutely fantastic; very helpful and knowledgable, and i admit asking her before the forum ;) in most cases. the forum is great hen one doesn't have a consultant, but i do and i like the personal rapport we have. to her credit, she has never made me feel any different from anyone purchasing a tm from her, whereas i can imagine some consultants wouldn't want anything to do with anyone who already had a tm; then, of course, there are those who don't want to know once they've sold a tm to you!

which is sad and not good business sense...if consultants make their customers happy then they are far more likely to recommend friends and family etc to you and hence more sales not to mention free publicity.. :)
