Title: Grating Cheddar Type Cheeses
Post by: Cuilidh on November 12, 2011, 12:59:32 am
Can anyone tell me the trick to successfully grating cheddar type cheese?  Whenever I try doing it I end up with a gluggy lump smeared all around my bowl.  Possibly a speed problem?

I found that just under 10 seconds at speed 8 for cheddars seems to work.  By the time you hear the sound changing it's just a wee bit too late.  Parmesan is a much easier cheese to grate (why can't they all be like that?)!!!!

I turbo a couple of times checking for the right consistency each time.

I chop my mozzarella and peak in the top as it goes.

I think cutting your pieces evenly about 1.5 cm square helps too. I also watch through the hole.

l found this on someones blog   l tried it and it worked for me

Grated Cheese
for topping pizzas, lasagnes, vegetables etc.
When grating cheeses that have a higher moisture content (e.g. cheddar, mozzarella) add 1 tsp flour to the TM bowl before chopping on speed 8. This will help the cheese to chop to a consistency that is easier for distributing on your pizza and other dishes.

What a good idea, Nazar, I will give that a try - and you hole watchers are right, I must start doing that as well.

I hate it when I find people have trouble with something that has always worked for me, it tends to place a curse. I haven't ever had trouble grating my cheese ( I am a hole watcher) not looking forward to the next time, it will probably smear!

You'll be fine Bedlam, just go for it (are you suffering insomnia at the moment - it's very early over your side of the country just now).

It's happened to me a couple of times as well, this is a good place to be when you are looking for comfortable friends to sympathise and see you through.

Ah, yes!  Don't you wish Thermomix would offer a transparent lid ! ! !

I'd be more than happy to pay for a transparent lid as an extra accessory.
