What are the pluses and minuses? I know I'd have to do a bit of travel as I'm in the country. Our local demonstrator is having a baby in January and another in the area has quit. I'm just not sure about the cost of travelling 100's of kms and then not selling a machine! The demonstrator who's having a baby has said she's flat out and they're desperate for demonstrators in my area - Great Southern of WA.
I've already 'sold' three - one to a friend, one to my DD and another to an acquaintance.

I have finally taken the plunge myself and become a consultant.
I completed my training last week and have already three demos under my belt (sold 3 machines too ;D)
I have had my machine for about 2.5 years so I have had plenty of time to think about this decision.
So far all positive.....let you know in the next couple of weeks about the negatives (hopefully none :))

It sounds as though you would be kept busy if you became a demonstrator in your area MJ.I think with your knowledge of the TM you would be brilliant and very helpful to any potential customers. :)

Bite the bullet MJ, I would certainly love to have either you or Rara near me with your abundant thermie knowledge - I do understand the travel cost concern though, but you are dealing with the wonderful nature of country people so you may not encounter the same nos of those after a free meal ticket - the consultant here is often complaining about the many demos which produce no sales. That being stated, my decision to purchase was not a result of the help, advice nor guidance from that consultant - good luck to both you and Rara :)

Thanks for the positives! I've had my machine for about 3 years now. How long was the training? Also, does it cost much to set yourself up with everything you need to start?
My training was spread out for 3 weeks. It was once a week in the evening. It did run on for a bit too long (I need my beauty sleep!) so I suggest do the training during the day if you can.
To set up you need a business pack from thermomix, ABN number as well as insurance. I also purchased business cards.
So far, this is what I have laid out.
My first demo (at my mum's) I had most of the ingredients so didn't have to purchase anything!!
Slowly I have been buying basic ingredients and keeping the docket so I can claim back on tax.
I can see how upset you would get if you drove 100's km and didn't get a sale BUT they may purchase one later down the track!!

And thanks Rara for the info. I'd definitely do the training during the day as I'm 300km from Perth. I could probably use our farm ABN if my accountant lets me!
I think I've already made up my mind. Just have to discuss with DH. I love meeting new people and I enjoy going to different places.
