Title: Varoma
Post by: chicksta44 on December 01, 2011, 03:00:16 am
Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched on Varoma and it came up with 40 pages that contained the word, so I thought it might be easier for me to just ask the question rather than read 40 pages of posts!

So..... tonight I am making pork fillet in the varoma with steamed veg in the top varoma tray. My questions is.. is there a minimum amount of liquid you need in the jug to get the maximum steaming results? I want to make a garlic mustard sauce to pour over the top but it will only be about 400ml of liquid (150g cream & 250g Stock). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there is a minimum amount to get good steaming results, but you do have to be careful not to boil your thermie dry. Steaming pork and vegies wouldn't take a long time but better to be safe than sorry.  Most recipes have a minimum of 500g liquid (sauce) in the bowl.  :)

I'm pretty sure I've read that it's a minimum of 500g.

YES - a minimum of 500g of water for steaming (use this for the first 30 min and then another 250g of water for every 15 min there after) ;)

You can find this info in the front of your EDC book and also on the magnetic chart that comes with it if you are in OZ, otherwise I am sure it is in the instruction book (though don't quote me on that one as I haven't the new one and mine is in tatters lol)

Thanks everyone. I tried this last night. The steaming worked perfectly. The meat was cooked and veggies were nice and tender. The sauce however was a complete disaster! Obviously need a lot more practice in converting recipes! Will post my dilemma in the condiments section later on. Would have been a sensational sauce if it had worked out.
