Title: New from Adelaide
Post by: LucyJane on January 09, 2012, 11:05:45 am
Hello! I got my thermomix a couple of days before christmas (there was a lot of breathe holding) and I am hooked. I cooked before but more as a means to an end (ie eating) but now I find myself playing and experimenting more and doing things I didn't have the confidence to try before.
I am a stay at home mum of two little one DD3 and DS1 and we live in an ecovillage in Adelaide, we are owner builders of a strawbale house (we have finished the house but lots still to do) we have a productive vegie garden and lots of fruit trees around the village to pick from. I am really keen to reduce the amount of packaged goods and less money spent at the supermarket and more at the farmers markets and health food shops.
I have tried quite a few things now and haven't really had a failure yet. Pavolva, ice cream cheesecake, bread, pesto scrolls, lots of sorbet, mango chicken, risotto, soups, zucchini cake, bangers and mash, crackers, muffins and more. Finding lots of helpful tips and people on here. Thankyou!

Welcome LucyJane. Wow your straw bale house sounds really amazing. Is  the straw a good insulator? You sound to be in the ideal place to gain maximum use from the TMX.

Hello LucyJane, welcome to another Adelaide TMXer - our numbers are slowly growing.  Where is your ecovillage?
You have been doing so well and obviously loving it and as Cookie said, the TMX will be fit in so well with your lifestyle. You will have to show your new kitchen helper off to other village members, it sounds like they will all need one.

The village is in Aldinga, and I think mine is the 6th in the village! Not too shabby out of 100 households. The straw is amazingly insulative, we didn't have a day of heating (only for an hour in my little mans room when he was very sick, only cos we felt like we needed to do something) in the year and a half we've been there and we only have ceiling fans but people always ask if we have air con. Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the forum. You've made many wonderful things already.
I'm sure you'll put the thermomix to very good use in the village.

Welcome. I'm in Adelaide, but I know Aldinga well. We have neighbors building their own Eco house with straw bales etc. they've been building for 5 years and we have just helped them organize a 10kW solar electricity system. Very exciting. They're building at norton summit.

Anyway, enjoy your thermie. Mines new ( sadly the cheaper TC version) and I'm loving it!

Hi LucyJane, I could be just a teensy weensy bit jealous of your ecovillage  :-)) it sounds like an enviable lifestyle, and I would love a straw bale house with a productive garden.

We have lots of delicious recipes here that our members have kindly posted - and here is my current list of favourites  (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6470.0) - we also look forward to hearing from you if you have any queries, comments or converted recipes of your own to offer.

Hello, nice to meet you. I'm new here, too. I understand exactly what you mean about getting addicted to thermomix!

Welcome LJ - DH and I often talk about building a straw bale home ... might be picking your brains a bit later  ;D ;D I love the fact that they are so self insulating  :)
