Title: 5 in 1 multicooker
Post by: Thermobudgie on January 17, 2012, 12:06:22 pm
I have a tiny tiny kitchen and was very pleased to be able to get rid of a few appliances when the TC moved in. I've now just purchased a 5 in 1 multicooker to replace my pressure cooker, rice cooker and slow cooker. All of the reviews on this machine are very positve which is a good start. I hope I don't regret chucking my old faithful slow cooker - it's about 30 years old  :D

It's so great to have more cupboard space in my little kitchen. Now with the TC and the multi cooker I'm going to be one busy cook!  Does anyone have one of these machines? I'd love to hear what you think of it and any favourite recipes.

I have one of these as well and in fact used it tonight to make the Thai Beef Curry from it's cookbook. I'm very happy with it- especially the browning feature. I still have my rice cooker and will never get rid of it. Use it too often in tandem with the TMX & the 5 in 1. I hope you are happy with yours Thermobudgie

I have been looking at these too. I thought for about $160 it was good value. Trying to convince DH it's a good idea too. Said I could get rid of the rice cooker slow cooker and pressure cooker so I'd have more room in the kitchen!! Where did u get yours from, Thermobudgie and VHJ? I saw them advertised at the pressure cooker centre in Subiaco and also on eBay!!!
I'd be interested in what you think of the quality etc.

Yes there is a minimum but it's not much. Bowl holds 16 cups and the minimum is only about 3.5 cups. That's a combination of food and liquids

This (http://www.kitchenwaredirect.com.au/Cookware/Pressure-Cooker/The-5-in-1-Multi-Cooker-5L) is the product the girls are discussing for those who have never heard of it, like me :-))  Another product from the people who put out the Thermochef.

Having a TM,
I am not sure why you guys wouldneed to purchase this, The TM cooks the best rice, you can slow cook in the oven, so to me it would be for the pressure cooker?

Just interested.

VHJ, what made you purchase?

Mum used a pressure cooker a lot when I was little but it always terified me. Darn thing made lots of noise and threatened to blow up (never did). I remember she turned out some yummy meals very quickly using challenging cuts of meat  ;) so I was temped by the pressure cooker ability of the 5 in 1. I also  wanted a slow cooker that had a delay start and switched to warm when cooking finished. I sometimes do slow cook in the oven but was looking more at the days when I work away from home and can't do that.  This appliance wrapped all those things into something that took less room than my old slow cooker. So far so good with it ticking all the boxes for me.

Interested to read this thread as my poor old pressure cooker gave up a couple of weeks ago and I was looking at these. Am still tossing up as I'm not sure how well they'll last in comparison to just getting a new pressure cooker. I have a slow cooker and a rice cooker and had thought that I could have more cupboard space by getting rid of these if I bought the 5 in 1. One review I read said that because it is an electrical appliance it shouldn't be expected to last as long as a pressure cooker so that put me off a bit.

Does this work as well as a pressure cooker? I've been using my mum's old 1970's vintage pressure cooker and I love the winter dishes that I can make. The lid is really hard to remove and I've been thinking of an upgrade.....

Oh joy!! Cooked my first 5 in 1 meal and it was delish! Osso buco in 30 minutes, yummy shin meat melted in my mouth. That usually takes hours in the slow cooker or Dutch oven and the flavor was just as good.

I really love the keep warm function, it was ready at 4pm and we didn't eat until 6. I was worried that keeping it warm might mean it would be over cooked but it did exactly what it was supposed to and kept it warm until we were ready for it.  Not the best meal to make on a 35C day but all plates were licked clean regardless.

I fully recommend getting the Womens Weekly books for the Pressure Cooker (yum yum, lots of good recipes), or maybe the Slow Cooker book (although I don't have a SC and have never bought the book  :-)) well, its because I can cook SO FAST in the pressure cooker -- same thing but different), and I've seen in the supermarket there is also a combined recipe book too . Its a good price but I'm not going there.

Girls, You have me thinking.... I thought after I bought the thermomix I wouldn't need another kitchen appliance.
I have a slow cooker (mine is so old  - we use to call this a crock pot) which I love. I don't have a pressure cooker as they scare me. Maybe I need to get a 5 in 1 cooker?
Title: Re: 5 in 1 multicooker

I agree that apart from the TM, the only other electrical appliances I use in the kitchen are my electric pressure cooker and my Kitchenaid mixer. The TM makes get rice and I  have given away my slow cooker  ( why do you need one when the pressure cooker makes a meal so quickly and makes meat so tender it seems like it has been in a slow cooker?). Like other posts, I absolutely love the pressure cooker cookbooks out at the moment eg the osso buco example- this takes 20-30 minutes in a pressure cooker and it tastes beautiful. Finally, current model pressure cookers are safe these days, whether electric or stovetop, as the safety mechanisms on them prevent the leaks and 'explosions' of past generations. It just doesn't happen anymore. I looked at the 5 in 1 cooker a while back and realized I didn't need it as it duplicates everything I can do already with just the TM and pressure cooker. Between the two appliances, you can get a fantastic meal on the table in next to no time.

I've been looking at these as well. The slow cooker we have even though relatively new is far to large for a family of 4 and if you cook small quantities it seems to cook too quickly, it also doesn't brown which I think gives a lot of flavor to the dish. Does anyone know if the pressure cook function in the  5 in 1s  is as good as a stand alone pressure cooker? Im having a cupboard clean out and would like to buy one for winter cooking.

fundji, i got talked into a 6 litre one by the salesperson when the 4 litre one broke the first time I used it - they didn't have any 4 litres left and I don't think he wanted to go through the trouble of ordering one in for me so convinced me the bigger is better. I'm really disappointed in it and we hardley use it at all because it's jut too big. As said I also think the browning option and pressure cooking would be fantastic.

My multi cooker has been very very busy over the last couple of weeks, we are due to get a new cow in the freezer tomorrow so I've been cooking up all the roasts, shin, stewing meat and briskets to clear out a bit of space. I've managed to give away a fair bit to some friends with new babies so now the freezer is all ready to go!
It is such a wonderful appliance, I can see that it will be getting even more of a work out once the weather cools down.

I have had one of these for a while and just love it, my slow cookers are going ( will keep the small one for heating when entertaining ) my family much prefer the taste of pressure cooked meals over slow cooked. Perfect companion for my TM allows me to do larger quanities of meat in  the PC and rice and veg in the TM in the same amount of time. I did have a problem with the quality of this product but eventually got one that works and now I love it I have used it as a slow cooker but for me ( like most slow  cookers these days  ) it cooks too fast to be left all day.

Everten have the 5in1 on special at present.

At $134.95 I am very very tempted.
DH want's to get a new rice cooker as ours is soo old and the bowl is very scratched.
And we have several crock pots I use in winter taking up a lot of space.  (Tho since we had the wood heater put in I cook a lot on there in cast iron pots)
This 1 gadget would replace 4 appliances I have allmost worn out, and give me the bonus of a pressure cooker.

Do you think that reasoning would work on DH?    ;)

:D  Great combination.  Not much need for anything else...

I was winning over DH that I  need a 5-in-1 until he saw how well rice cooks in the TC...
And I cook a lot on our wood fire in winter using cast iron.  Cant beat slow cooked curries in cast iron pans.
I think I will wait til out rice cooker really gives up and then get one.
Everten have the best deals and great service.  They are cheaper than any eBay price I have seen.

I almost bought one of these to replace my old  8 L pressure cooker, but decided that it was too small. Also, being electric, it wouldn't last as long as a stovetop pressure cooker. Instead, General Trader were having a great sale and I bought a 8.5 L Scanpan pressure cooker for about the same price. Problem was, the pressure cooker wouldn't come up to pressure, so I had to take it back. Apparently, there was a bad batch of pressure cookers , so they have replaced it with a new one. I have just picked it up, so hopefully this will work.....
I hope everyone is happy with their pressure cookers, as they turn cheap cuts of meat into wonderful quick and easy meals. They are a great complement to thermies.

Meagan, I'm thinking of getting one this weekend. I'm trying to decide between the Breville fast slow and the Newwave 5 in 1, they look the same and seem to have the same functions. At the moment Appliances online have the Breville one for not much more than the Newave so I'm thinking of going with the more well known brand.

Matchbox have the 5 in 1 on sale at the moment for $159 including the additional stainless steel insert so think I'll go with that one as long as they have it in stock tomorrow.  I've already sent a txt to family and friends to see if anyone is interested in my Morphy Richards fairly new slow cooker and thinking I might put my old Monier one (retro in perfect condition still in original packaging) on ebay after seeing they seem to sell well on there.

Maddy, those ribs did look amazing.

Well I went and got it this morning and it is cooking my slow cooker meal now   ;) it's smelling good. So glad I got the stainless steel insert free :) love a good deal.

Last night I came away with chop sticks for the boys with those little silicone figures to hold then together ( DH asked if I got him one too lol - he is not a fan of chop sticks, whereas I grew up using them when we went to Chinese for family birthday celebrations and thought it was so grown up when I was able to use them properly)
The oil mister that everyone on here bought ages ago (24.95 saved $10) and a few other bits and bobs.

I have never used a pressure cooker - like others on here, my mum's scared me too much (but the other not-so-small reason was that the only thing we ever had in it was stew which was like just colored brown water with a few tiny strips of meat floating around in it  :P ) Needless to say my mum was not the best or most confident cook, everything was done in a hurry on the cheap and tasted it too - BUT  am happy to say she now has a TM, has had a HUGE confidence boost in her cooking ....AND HER FOOD IS NICE!!!!!!!  :o :o But I digress, what I want to know is about this machine, I brought a 6.5L slow cooker when I was preg with DD2, it is still going strong and I love it to pieces, gets used at least 3 times a week, but after reading thru this thread I am wondering if something like this would be better...? What do others think? DH often talks about his mum's pressure cooked meals and how NICE they were!!!

It is 6l capacity my slow cooker was 4.5 I like it but have only had it for 1 day. It cooked the slow cooker meal well and I found the pieces of veg stayed whole more than my old slow cooker. I guess it is a case of getting used to it. I am interested in the pressure cooker side of things as my friend uses her pressure cooker a lot and makes beautiful  dishes with it :)

Astarra, my mum has never liked cooking much, and I seem to remember all the bad meals she made rather than the good ones. Her soups were so thick that you could hold the bowl upside down and nothing would fall out!
After we all left home, she was having a clear out, and I rescued her pressure cooker. I was uncertain how to use it and a little scared, so it spent about 10 years at the back of my cupboard.  Then I bought mum a book for her birthday by Juantia Philips called " How a pressure cooker saved my life". It recounted a really stressful period in her life juggling news reading and a young family. She bought a pressure cooker and it bought a little sanity back into her life as well as tasty, nutritious and quick meals.  As a result, I dusted off the PC and started using it. I use it constantly in winter, and before I bought my TC, it was the appliance I used ( and loved) most. My husband has difficulty digesting red meat, so we rarely ate it. However, since I started using the PC, the meat is very tender and tasty and we eat it much more often. It is great for soups, curries and casseroles. You can even cook desserts in it too, but I haven't tried that yet. Most meat dishes only cook for about 15 minutes once they are bought up to pressure. It really does save time. I still brown the meat first, even though some recipes skip this step, as I think that it adds to the flavour. There are lots of recipes available on line and I have a few PC recipe books too. It really has moved on from watery stews. It even has "green" credentials as the power used to cook the meals is reduced - you don't have to simmer for hours or bake in an oven for hours.
Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now....

I started pressure cooking again after reading that book as well! It is so inspiring especially to working mums ! The recipes in there are a great start towards pressure cooking and I have to say that these days I don't know what I would do without my TM or the pressure cooker. I gave my slow cooker away ages ago to some friends as I think I used it in total about 3 times ever. My mum routinely used a pressure cooker when I was a kid (and she is a great cook- never had any 'explosions' either) so to me, there is something reassuring about the gentle hiss of the pressure cooker in the background. With my current pressure cooker, which is the Cusinart electric one , I find the size is perfect  for our family. In fact, I made some pea and ham soup the other day which fed 4 adults, 3 teenagers and my 5 yo twins easily.

I prefer pressure cooking over slow cooking. It can make things so quickly and yet tastes like it has been cooking away for hours and hours.

I was slightly scared however bought my first electric pressure cooker almost 9-10 years ago and never looked back (just replaced it with a newer model last week).

Hi, I am new here so am hoping someone will be able to help, I purchased the 5 in 1 multicooker yesterday and must say I love it so far, but am fearing I am the only person on the planet to have had a failure ???  I cooked the osso bucco that is in the book that came with the cooker, followed it to the letter, but found when I opened the lid it was sitting in a very thin watery sauce, not at all like I expected.  Also the meat was a bit tough, I should have put it on for another ten minutes but I have been reading reviews all day and everyone that has cooked it can't say enough about how beautiful it turned out, any ideas on what may have gone wrong.  I haven't given up, am about to start the risotto as everyone seems to be very impressed with that recipe also.

Were you using the pressure cooking function? The general rule is the less liquid the better for pressure cooking. Maybe there is a problem with the supplied recipe? I don't have the 5 in 1 cooker, only a dedicated pressure cooker so I find the less liquid the better. Also, you don't want to have any more than 2/3 of the bowl volume with liquid.

Post by: mummywesty on May 07, 2012, 09:18:33 am
Sorry, should have said that, yes it was the pressure cooking function.  I did notice that the recipe uses the exact same recipe for the slow and pressure cooking, but then I guess both need only a small amount.  I have never pressure cooked before but have done a lot of slow cooking, this had wine, stock as well as a tin of tomatoes added so quite a bit of liquid, I guess I have read others that followed this recipe and said it was great that I am confused as to how I could possible have mucked it up.  It is entertaining my husband tho ha ha

If the sauce is too liquid at the end you just need to thicken it up like you would conventionally eg cornflour. As long as the meat is cooked through and tastes alright, sometimes if sauces turn out too liquid, whether or not with a pressure or slow cooker, they can be rescued by thickening as you normally would on a stovetop.

Rosie, don't get rid of your slow cookers. It's hard to find a round one (even though the New Wave is Round) great for Christmas cakes and any cake really. A smaller one for legumes. A bigger oval one for legs of lamb.

Mummywesty, I haven't tried that recipe but from the few casseroles I've cooked so far you really only need a small amount of liquid so maybe the recipe isn't quite right.

Thanks wonder, I redeemed myself last night with a brilliant risotto, first time ever I have cooked one with success.  I am thinking maybe next time I will coat meat with flour for casserole type meals as my other recipes do, will put it down to a bad recipe rather than a bad cook ha ha

I actually bought one before I saw the post about home depot....luckily that is where I got it from!  I'm having to replace my Cuisinart pressure cooker which is going to go through the window if I use it one more time.  It refuses to stay on pressure unless it is a VERY VERY watery soup or something like a chicken with water sitting underneath.  It is taking a trip to St Vinnies this weekend....hopefully someone will get some use out of it and I will have reduced stress levels.  Nothing quite like trying to cook dinner late and a piece of kitchen equipment not cooperating to give you high blood pressure (when you have people whinging that they are hungry....argh!)

The caramelised pepper pork is on my list for next week Maddy, lots of lovely recipes in that book, and once you are familiar with the process, it's really easy to convert your own recipes that would have taken hours in the oven.  Would not like to be without it now. :D

I'm loving the pressure cooker function and am absolutely loving it. We've mostly just made recipes that we are familiar with and converting for the pressure cooker, but have made a few from the Suzanne Gibbs book (still waiting for the WW one). I've made a great Cree caramel from the Suzanne Gibbs book and it hasn't lasted the overnight setting time. The custard has cooked fantastically in 35 mins. I'm hoping to make another one this weekend and hide it in the back of the fridge before anyone notices it and I'll then be able to see how it turns out once set.

I love book depository. I had planned on purchasing the Suzanne Gibbs one from fishpond but had never used them before and there were a lot of bad reviews on the internet about them. Glad I stuck with book depository, they were only $2 more expensive and was here within a week. Hopefully the Womens Weekly one will arrive today.  After last nights curry and rice we are completely sold on the 5 in 1 and pressure cooking. The kids are joking that the TMX must be jealous  ;D

I was totally new to pressure cookers when I got my 5 in 1, I bought a book called something like "Miss Vicki's Big book of pressure cooking recipes" she has a helpful web site too. Its quite good and has a big table in the front with times etc for most foods that I find great when trying to convert some of my other recipes. It's "basic" type cooking but a great starter book, it has helped me out allot....I think I got it from the book depository.

Been too busy lately with DGS to get on here.
My 5 in 1 arrived on Monday.  Just too late for the Mother's Day to me gift, but DH and DGS made a big thing of presenting it to me Monday night.
Already I love it.
Have slow cooked, pressure cooked and normal cooked in it so far   :)
Haven't done rice as I am using the rice cooker until it falls off the twig completely.
6 in 1 sounds interesting, But I bought a deep fryer recently for DGS and DH's donuts.. :-))  And I think I would prefer that as a separate item.  Bit less fuss with filling and empying the oil.
I have been scouring the op shops for some good pressure cooker recipe books.
So many people on this forum have one now I think we may need a new forum for the 5 in 1 cooker tips and hints soon.

2cellery sticks with leaves
Parsley thyme or whatever herbs you like
2 bay leaves
2tsp salt
1 tsp pepper corns

Wow - I shouldn't have read this thread because now I think I need one! Do you keep your multicookers on the bench, like Thermie? I have no experience with PC's, don't even know anyone who has one, but I'm liking the sound of it. Trouble is, I already have a slow cooker which I don't use that much. Like the sound of the browning function - do stand alone PC's have this function also?
Title: Re: 5 in 1 multicooker

Deedub, I leave mine on the bench as well as thermie.

Thermie has pride of place.
MY kitchen aid mixer and 5 in 1 are in my cooking corner always on the bench.
I've never had a PC before, so I don't know about the browning  function on a stand alone machine.

I second Obbie, we are loving our 5 in 1, even DH who is very set in his ways and will only use saucepans is loving it. I ahven't cooked plain rice but have cooked a rice pilaf in it and that was great. I've used the pressure cook and browing function which are great, used the soup function and the ham hock wasn't as cooked in the time as I liked so second time around just used the pressure cooking function for soup and it turned out perfectly, can't comment on the rice cooking or slow cooking.

Post by: Lisel on May 24, 2012, 01:13:09 pm
I saw the 6-in-1 somewhere (online) it does seem the only difference is the frying, in which case I think I'll go or the older one, as the only thing I have ever deep fried was papadums!

Can anyone review the rice cooker function? the casserole dish I use in the microwave doesn't hold enough now my boys are eating huge amounts and thermie is always busy with something else so this is my main reason for buying it.

Maddy how annoying, I've only gotten gift cards from fly buys and even they took ages to arrive.  I really must check my banks reward program, would hate to buy a 5-in-1 only to discover they have them, I've never gotten anything I've really really wanted from a rewards program.

Great idea Bickie. See how you get on with NewWave re shipping two to London, and let me know.  There's also import duty and VAT to consider also. Import Duty is unavoidable unfortunately...if a package is declared at being worth more than £18, both duty and vat are payable...

The only thing letting off steam is me LOL

This probably a stupid question but did you leave it long enough to come to pressure? depending on what you are cooking and how cold the ingredients are it can take up to 15 minutes. If I have something with a lot of cold ingredients and haven't browned in it first to warm the bowl it seems to take forever to come to pressure.
Title: Re: 5 in 1 multicooker
Post by: thermo18 on May 31, 2012, 08:04:58 am
Yeh wonder I had browned the meat first, and it took awhile to get to pressure but the timer was on for 30 minutes, but it just turn off and went onto warm and it hadn't done the 30 minutes. So when I phoned them they said to put 2 cups of water in there and put timer on for 2 minutes and shake the lid just before pressure to see if anything was stuck, well waited and waited finally phoned them to say nothing had happened and they said to release it and see what was happening inside , no water lol. Bone dry, the machine still had the 2 minutes still ready to go.  Hopefully all will be fine with a new lid  :)

Maybe another silly answer.
But are you turning the lid fully to the closed position.  Not just shut down, but turned as well to the locked position.

That's a bummer thermo....unfortunate you received a faulty one...it does happen...but it sounds like the customer service was great, so that must be comforting.

Realistically, it's only 2-3 weeks to wait now....I really don't think it's worth the hassle of canceling, and risking not getting those flybuy points back......It's only going to get colder for a while to come  Yet ;)

Maddy, I don't know how you can put up with waiting so long for it.
Reading all the reviews on here and you are still waiting.    :-\
Mine has bee in use since it arrived, and had a yummy meal ready for us when we arrived home tonight.
Combined with the TC it is perfect.

I can also vouch for the service from the New Wave company.
I had a small problem with my spatula.  It wouldn't click together.
They immediately sent a replacement, no problems at all.
I notice the new one is slightly different and does not have the problem at all.
Seems they want to get a good name for quality product and service.

I can vouch for the fact that their customer service has been good.  I had a problem with my thermochef a few weeks after I got it and they were very prompt in dealing with my issue...they actually sent me a new base unit.  I didn't hesitate to purchase a 5 in 1 from them a couple of weeks ago (actually through homedepot) and I am very happy with it.  I replaced my cuisinart pressure cooker with it because it (the cuisinart!) had developed personality problems (must be catching.....my laptop is now doing bizzare things) and refused to come to pressure unless it had gallons of liquid in it.  The one of the same recipes that I couldn't cook in the cuisinart cooked beautifully in the 5in1.  Fingers crossed it will keep being good....its scheduled to cook a piece of silverside for lunch tomorrow.

I do find my 5 in 1 will click straight over to warm without getting to pressure if there is not enough liquid in it, BUT saying that I had 4 of them before I got one that worked, the first 3  had something wrong with it...at least as said before although the process was frustratiing their customer service was excellent !

Well my 5 in 1 came, really excited now I am frustrated, it has taken me all morning to try and get it to work, couple phone calls to the help line and still the pressure cooker won't work, I have done everything it says the timer just won't start, they are now going to send me another lid as they think it could be that not getting to pressure grrrrr has anyone else had this problem? The only thing letting off steam is me LOL
I had sort of a similar problem yesterday. My 5 in 1 has been working perfectly but yesterday it came up to pressure and kept turning itself off after a couple of minutes. It finally came good. Will have to give it another go over the weekend to make sure.

We cooked a 2.2kg wagyu beef roast in the 5 in one tonight and it was absolutely delicious !!!!Melt in your mouth. This is what we did.  We browned the roast on the BBQ first. I was very unsure about cooking time but was using high pressure.  I placed an upside down metal saucer in the bottom of the bowl and 1/2 cup water and then sat the meat on that. I put it on for 45 mins on high pressure first, checked and still blood oozing, so put it on again for another 25 minutes and checked again and then another 20 mins and it was done (no blood oozing, I like meat to be cooked not mooing !!!).

We then wrapped the roast in alfoil and let it sit for about 20 mins.  It was a little like carving a piece of silverside, it just fell apart and was moist and the kids demolished it and kept asking for more !!! At least if I post on here I can look back and see what I did lol.

Ohhhhh and we had yorkshire puddings, Master 5 and 7 had 3 each, they were very yummy too.

If mine broke I'd replace it with an electric pressure cooker (stove top is probably better but I cannot be relied upon to keep an eye on it).  I don't use mine for anything that can't be done in a pressure cooker.  Eg: why would i use the rice cooker, which takes 15 (ish?) minutes when I can do it for 1/3 of that time using the PC function.

I like the browning function. I have a stand alone oval slow cooker that is good for legs of lamb. It doesn't have browning function though which many of the newer models have. I use the PC function and have never used the rice cooker function.

i loved mine and it was a great easy introduction to pressure cooking - basically one button and no failures. Mine did stop working after 3 months but newwave were happy to send a courier to pick it up and replace it. I ended up buying a stove top one and love that as well.

Mine has done this a couple of times.
Both times I was starting a curry with a lot of juicy veg that I knew would give enough moisture for the cooking.
I added a bit of water and gave the ingredients a really good stir and everything was fine.
I think it must be a heat sensor or something setting off when there is not enough liquid at the bottom of the pot.
Just a guess, but seems to work.

I haven't read this entire thread so forgive me if this has been covered before. I'm interested in purchasing the 6 in 1 multi cooker which is currently on special for $129. It's the 5 in 1 with the addition of a deep fat fryer. I'm mainly interested in the pc side of it and most pressure cookers are around this price anyway. Are they a good pc or would I be better buying a stand alone one? Does anybody own a 6 in 1 and would you recommend it? TIA

I love my 5-in-1 and use the pressure cooker, slow cooker and soup function a lot.
I like my soup chunky and I often use a smoked turkey drumstick in it.  (We don't eat pork)
The Thermie doesn't like Smoked Turkey drumsticks  :P
I cooked a huge 20+ serving plum pudding for Christmas in it as a slow cooker that was really really good.
I figure I wouldn't use the deep fry function as I have a separate fryer, and I would probably want to serve whatever I deep fried with something out of the pressure cooker.

I bought the breville slow cooker/pressure cooker which also steams rice and vegetables.
I won't use it to cook rice as I love my rice cooker but so far I am very impressed with the dishes I have cooked both in pressure cooking mode and slow cooker mode.  I paid $145 at the good guys.  With that in my kitchen and thermie I am very happy and use the stove top for sautéing and the oven for roasts etc.  :)

The 5-in-1 in absolutely fantastic. :)
I love mine and use it a lot.  I bought a big bag of carrots and steamed them for freezing in no time.
Made my Christmas pud in iit as a slow cooker
With the deals on at present grab the 6-in-1.  Free shipping and the deep fryer and extra bowl  included.  WOW.

When I got the 5-in-1 I didn't have the choice, and when the 6-in-1 was released didn't worry as I would seldom use the fryer.
Now you get it all for less than the 5-in-1 was.
To me it's a no brainer.   :D

I've had trouble with Groupon in the past with things like meat deals and a restaurant meal for my DD in Melbourne - when they went there to book, it was gone!  2 meat deals were a non-event - trouble there is that they sell too many deals and the poor butchers have no hope of supplying something like 600 orders. I did receive refunds.  I decided to unsubscribe after all that but have recently joined again and am now waiting for my office chair to arrive.

It's hard to measure because of the shape but it's about 34-35cm tall...here's a pic that might help...I was a bit surprised at just how big it is, but it does do a lot.

It's hard to measure because of the shape but it's about 34-35cm tall...here's a pic that might help...I was a bit surprised at just how big it is, but it does do a lot.

I am tempted to buy a pressure cooker just to do MF's rendang recipe. DH loves a good rendang.

It's lovely slow cooked as well Yvette. I cook it on the stove with the lid off after I have pressure cooked it as rendang should just have a bit of sauce clinging to the meat as it is supposed to be a dry dish.
Will post as soon as my wifi is fixed as its too awkward to do from my phone. Guy coming next Thursday and then everything should be working as it should.

I also emailed new wave yesterday and had an email back from them this morning. Saying contact Groupon.

With groupon normally they give you a delivery date time frame but you need to order logged into your account to see it...they take longer than other sites but thats because they are a one time group offer not just sellng something online... Its normal to take weeks.. I bought some watches cheap and they took over a month...

I'm a bit confused with the bits and pieces too. I will take a photo maybe some can tell us what they are, one I think is a spoon rest the other bits are anyone's guess.
I'm cooking corn beef using the slow cooker function.

Not a basket but flat, I tried it on the stand but didn't seem right to me, I did take a photo of the handles foe the basket, I think the small handles are a spoon holder.

I have no idea what the flat disk with holes in it s but the other one is a stand for when you want to cook things up of the bottom like a roast or creme caramel.

Thanks JD, found out what the disk is its a steaming plate, so you could cook rice in the bottom put the plate in and steam something while its cooking.

I cooked corn beef yesterday , using the slow cooker mode it came to heat much quicker than my old slow cooker, then pressure cooked my veg, done in ten minutes. White sauce in thermi.

Question....
I bought the Nuwave 6-in-1 about a month ago. When it arrived, I took it out of the box and put it on the bench. Since then, I've had heaps of things going on and haven't had the chance to 'learn' a new appliance. Now that I have the time I've taken all the bits and bobs out of the cooker and had a better look. At the top on the outside, there is a dial type thing which is related to how the pressure is released...

This dial type thing is not in securely...is it supposed to be a bit loose feeling???

Any ideas would be appreciated!

I could have written this word for word. I used mine for the first time in the week and discovered what the dial was for!  So, it's meant to be wobbly when not under pressure. So, when you pressure cook make sure the dial is closed and the pressure will quickly buildup and make it fit tight. When you've finished pressure cooking you release the pressure by turning the dial. Steam will come out very quickly so I recommend doing it with a tea towel. Thisis what I presume is referred to as the quick release method.

Title: Re: 5 in 1 multicooker
Post by: obbie on March 08, 2013, 11:15:34 pm
the dial is meant to be wobbly, so the steam can come out.

you don't tighten it.

Like obbie says its meant to be wobbly to let steam out but you must have it in the closed middle position to pressure cook cause you obviously don't want the steam to escape or else it'll never build up any pressure!

I use my PC and TM all the time, they each have there special place in my kitchen, and I also have 2 slow cookers, (which I would never get rid of), but store away for times when we entertain, and have hot food, esp in winter. I find the old slow cooker (monier crock pots) are great at this time for keeping meals warm, or I even use one of them to  keep bread rolls warm in, (put some paper towel in to absorb the moisture). There are just some things you need to keep.  ;D

I agree PP. I have 2 slow cookers and use them for entertaining. They really come into their own when we have dinner parties or as a combined family we are rather large, so really good when we are all together.  :)
