Just seeing this now, dont know how I missed it, big congratulations Uni to you and your DD (when you can tell her you told us :D)

Congrats Uni, that's fantastic news for you. My parents say it's great having grandkids as you have more time to spend playing with them as housework etc can wait until they go home.
They can buy them noisy toys to send home, spoil them rotten and then wave bye bye at the door, then you can sit down for a well earned drink! Enjoy!
-
someone has been noticeably absent today...I hope it was only one bottle of champers?
-
:D :D :D She's probably been out shopping for baby clothes etc.
-
Either that or still celebrating
H :)

-
Yay! Congratulations! Had to chuckle at that remark 'grandchildren are our reward for not strangling our teenagers'. (un)fortunately I am still at the not-strangling stage.......I have a thirteen-year old who has just hit full-blown puberty. ;D
-
Great news Uni! Can't wait until I'm a Nanna. Have fun on eBay!
-
Well done. I am an Oma :-*
-
this is what i have been up 2 in the last few days ;D
-
You are really into it Uni. Will your DD dress her baby in knitted clothes - all the knitting I had in my Hope Chest was given away to others or to people running fetes because DD wouldn't dress her babies in hand knitted clothes. Even the beautiful shawl I laboured over went unused until GD started placing it on the foot of her bed and bringing it here for sleepovers.
-
JD i only know how to knit the botties and blankets, it was an effort to do the beanie
where you very sad when your DD wouldn't dress her kids in hand knitted clothes ,i would b :(
-
Hi Uni, I've been away for a few days and busy, so missed this news, congratulations, I have 9 little darlings they are so much fun, we have lots of sleepovers sometimes 4 or 5 at once, I hope DD lives close by. I have a Teddy holding a sign, Welcome to Nannies house where grandkids are spoilt. So excited for you.
-
4 or 5 at once - boy you are a super grannie Brenda :o
No I wasn't disappointed Uni, I could see baby fashions going that way long before DD became pregnant and I was just so happy to be a Grandma that it didn't worry me in the least. I had fun for 10 years knitting in hope ;D I have given away all my knitting books now but have kept the needles, don't know why I did that.
-
JD I,m sure the knitting needles will come in handy for doll and Teddies clothes, GD 8 loves blankets and clothes for her treasures. even GD 13 (much to my surprise) and her girlfriend who stayed a few days last week were so excited to make their own teddies and blankets.
-
I've done that too Brenda. GD and any little girl who came here went away with dolls clothes each time they came. I think it may all be behind me now, she doesn't seem that interested in dolls anymore at 7. I don't know that I would have the time anymore either.
-
Congratulations Uni! When i first read the title to this post I assumed somebody was happy to be the owner of a Thermomix and when I eventually decided to click on it, I read the good news!
A baby really does make a difference to so many lives! I have a 4.5 month old and she makes so many people happy. Even my dad is a different person and so much happier because of his first granddaughter.
They really are such a blessing!
-
Oh and i have been given a whole heap of hand knitted items, mainly blankets and booties but I don't want them so don't go too crazy with your knitting.
-
Congrats - my Mum knitted a blanket for both of my kids (very modern and bright) and I use them all the time. I'll keep these as keepsakes for each of them, I have a blanket that my great grand mother knitted for me as a baby.
A girlfriend knitted my daughter cardi's and matching hats for when she was about 8 months old (winter) and she wore them nearly everyday. Everybody commented on them, she looked very cute.
I just wish I knew how to knit, so I could make them winter jumpers.
-
Uni I am not sure if your dd plans to use cloth nappies ( often referred to as modern cloth) but you can knit wool covers which are fantastic :) that is how I started knitting again 5 years ago :D. I loved hand knits for my boys. So special!
-
i really dont think she will meagan, but i am planning to buy a few ;D
-
My mum knitted some beautiful little cardigans and booties. The booties stretched, and I wasn't really into gentle handwashing and all the extra time involved in looking after them so I kept them and we used them for dolls clothes. Mum was a bit miffed when the girls had grown up and we had to pare down on some items cos we were moving. They were all in perfect condition and so she took them back to give to my brothers kids. I did love them tho, but just too much hard work (for a lazy gal).
-
I think yarn has changed and there are more easy care options out there now ;)
-
sorry ladies but you will need to but up with until the baby is born ;D (25/9)
i saw the babys heart beat today ;D, DD is now convinced that she is having a baby ;D
-
Congrats - my Mum knitted a blanket for both of my kids (very modern and bright) and I use them all the time. I'll keep these as keepsakes for each of them, I have a blanket that my great grand mother knitted for me as a baby.
My mum knitted both my boys blankets before they were born and they are VERY much loved by the boys. Mr 2s blanket recently had to be returned to mum for some repairs because it is dragged along the floor everywhere!
-
Uni your knitting is lovely. Mum made DD an entire set out of that wool. Poor kid wore it home from the hospital wrapped in a circular crocheted shawl that had been made for me to come home many years before. It was a warm day so DH picked us up early and we had the air con on high so the poor baby could wear all these woolly garments.
-
Wow congrats Uni! I can certainly feel your excitement building! ;D
I'll also vote for the cloth nappies... they are the cutest... and save heaps in $$ and the environment. I had two in cloth for around 18 months and it was a breeze!
My mum is a knitter too... I only wish she'd been keen enough to knit for my babies! :-*
-
my 1st 2 were 12 months apart and i did use cloth nappies i did not think its was a breeze, maybe because i had no washing machine :(
-
WTH
My DD just asked me if i wanted to go to grandparent partnering group. you do not what 2 know my answer
-
Yes I do ??? Never heard of that group before.
-
can u believe it JD a grandparent partnering group, what next
-
the hospital where tash will be going do offer high tea for grandparents, i do like that idea ;D
-
When she is giving birth Uni ???
-
her due date is the 25/9, i know anything can happen until then, i have my fingers crossed ;D
-
Oh finally some good news... Conggrats uni... Woohoo just what you have been waiting for...
Wish the parents a healthy pregnancy and baby above all else
R cloth nappies.. I tried that option but was a Bit of a disaster for me and i ended up going back to disposable after a couple of months..
Love knitted itms if done tastefully...i evn started knitting stuff when i was pregnant but never finished them lol
-
thanks kim
i have a few unfinished items :-)), i know i will end up unpicking and crocheting a blanket
-
whats the grandparent partnering group all about? Sounds a bit kinky if you ask me (not that thats the reason I'm asking :-)))
-
;D CP i think it teaches you how to be a grandparent :o. i stopped my DD at....... they will show you how to
-
Who needs teaching to be a Grand-parent ??? We are Grand-parents because we have already been parents and we are damn good at it ;D ;D
-
It all leaves you a bit breathless doesn't it, JD!!?? makes you wonder what little whipper-snapper thought this one up in order to teach the "oldies" what life is all about . . . . . sitting here feeling a rave on a soapbox coming on . . . so I'd better stop while we're ahead . . . . . ;D ;D ;D
-
Probably someone without children goldfish ;)
I can remember when I was trying to breastfeed my first born in hospital and not getting anywhere. With tremendous pain and frustration for us both. I told the matron I was not going to continue with it. This matron (typical of the day but no longer seen in hospitals thank goodness) was getting angry at me for wanting to give up - I firmly told her they were my breasts and I would do as I wanted with them. What would she know - she had never been married, let alone have a child. She made sure I suffered though, she bound me herself and did it so tightly that the pain was incredible. Oh, the good old days - thank goodness they are dead and buried.
-
That is interesting Judy. My experience was sort of the opposite but possibly a couple of years later than yours. DD was prem and I had big troubles trying to feed her. With her being very tiny and me very big things would not mesh at all. Eventually as she was losing weight and we had been in hospital for 2 weeks the Matron came to me and suggested very sheepishly that we m ay have to resort to the bottle. We did and were both discharged within 48 hours.
Now when I read things about breast is best I don't feel guilty as we did our very best.
-
The grandparetns group reminds me of Meet The Fockers and the class Mrs Focker (Barbara Striesand) teaches LOL
Perhaps you shuld go Uni ;D
-
i love that movie DG, may i will go ;)
-
Hahaha.
I find breastfeeding comes and goes.. In style i mean and pushed by maternities. I wanted to breastfeed and was determined and enjoyed it even though i had alot of initial probs with ds but think t has to be a choice and not forced down peoples throats as its not for everyone and doesnt seem natural to everyone either.. Im glad i breastfed as thats what i wanted and did until 8mths for both ds and dd but dont batter an eyelid if someone else didnt even try and just bottle fed or tried and found it wasnt for them... And have to say you need to listen to your inner voice also ad you get everyones opinion on ehat you should do and how you should do it... Just need to block it all out and follow your gut feeling...
When i wasin hospital with ds i had so many conflicting opinions from hospital staff that in the end i told them all to just shut it and leave me be... In the end it was a young midwife that told me basically what i had been thinking all along dep down and that was just to do what feels right for me snd relax and do whatever makes me comfortable.. Best advice ever!
