Someone has told me that after cooking or using eggs in dishes (eg scrambled eggs,etc), you should wash everything in cold water to get rid of the smell?
To be honest, I didn't know that and haven't noticed a smell but have found it easier to wash that way.
Does anyone else do this?

I've never noticed a particular smell from eggs or heard about this.

i use cold water only when washing anything that as hade egg in it pots ,pans and TM
Have you heard, never to crack an egg on the rim of the bowl ?

No Uni I haven't. Why is that as I usually do that?

you wash everything cold water not because of the smell, but so the protein in the egg doesn't cook and stick - it's to make washing up easier.
you don't crack eggs on the side of the bowl so you don't dent the rim of the bowl, or worse still, have an accident with the egg and have it run down the side of the outside of the bowl and down into the bowl cavity of the housing - i've heard that is a nightmare to clean. you have to look after the bowl so the seal works well and the bowl doesn't leak. same thing with banging the spatula on the side of the bowl - don't do it because over time, the rim of the bowl will dent and the bowl may leak as a result because the seal won't work the way it should.

I was also told by my consultant not to crack eggs on the rim of the bowl incase you dripped a little egg white down the sides of the bowl, as the egg white would burn whilst the TMX was in use.
My OH had the habit of banging the spatula on the rim of the bowl when we first got Thermie. I used to get really annoyed with him, so much so I told him he would be banned from using Thermie if he kept doing it. Luckily he stopped :)

You certainly don't want a dented bowl. They never work the same again. spoken from experience. :'(

I was watching a cooking show recently and the chef said to crack eggs on the middle of the benchtop (not the edge). I think the pieces of shell are larger when you do it this way. It seems to work better for me. ??? ;D

i do the same Chelsea or crack an egg with an other egg if u know what i mean

I sometimes crack mine on the TMX white casing, not the rim of the bowl. Hope that is OK??

The thing about not cracking eggs on the edge of a bowl - any bowl, not just the TMX - is because you can knock tiny pieces of the shell into the interior of the egg.
If you break an egg on a flat surface, it will usually create an hemispheric crack that goes around the egg and makes it easier to separate the two halves of the shell and/or separate the yolks from the whites.
I have seen TV chefs crack eggs on the edge of a bowl and then use the empty egg shell to fish out the odd piece of shell that had dropped into the bowl as a sort of instructional bit to show how the eggshell "attracted" the loose fragment.
From long habit, I always crack eggs into a separate bowl or cup and then add them to whatever I am preparing. Very rarely I do get an egg that has an inclusion that I wouldn't want in certain dishes, i.e., a larger than normal blood spot.
Since I get most of my eggs from a local man, whose hens run with a rooster, I do occasionally get a "fertile" egg that has a miniscule embryo inside.

I do the same andie. Always crack into a mug. We use the eggs our ducks and hens lay and sometimes there is the odd surprise.
