Such an easy and satisfying meal and when it's put all together with the dressing, it's really flavoursome.
Instead of using tortilla wedges on the side I made roll ups with whole torillas. Loved it this way and will continue to do that in the future.
I only added the dressing to what I was using right then so the rest of the meat/salad mix won't go soggy.
Will definitely make again, very good. 5/5

What cut of beef did you end up using JulieO?
-
All the veg/salad ingredients were so lovely and fresh they couldn't help looking good ;D
Judy, I was advised to use beef skirt steak which I did and it cooked in the time given. :)
-
Thanks Julie, I would have to ask the butcher for it specifically as I never see that cut of meat on display where I shop. I used to use it a lot when I was a young housewife, it was a common cut back then.
-
JD, i have some, shame your not close by I would pop some over.
I have never used it before, what did you use it for?
I planned on using it in curry & casseroles.
H ;)
-
That's what I used to use it for too Hally.
-
Thanks :)
Do tou know what cut they use for diced steak?
H :)

Thanks Julie, I would have to ask the butcher for it specifically as I never see that cut of meat on display where I shop. I used to use it a lot when I was a young housewife, it was a common cut back then.
When I asked at the butcher he said they have it to use in their minced beef but don't display it on it's own as it doesn't sell. He cut it up for me into large cubes.

Thanks Julie.
Having 1 side of beef I have all cuts.
Was the meat tender?

Because it gets shredded, it's quite easy to eat, doesn't look all that great, (IMO) quite stringy, but it's soft and works in this recipe and I would use it again. Also it's near the bottom of the layers in the dish so it's quite hidden. ;D
I would love to know what cut Tenina used in her recipe so I could compare. :)

Hally I use blade steak whenever I want to do a recipe that calls for diced steak - don't know what the butchers use but I find blade works for me.

Hi
Made this for dinner and it was a hit.
so easy and feeds a large family.
I used skirt steak, shredded beautifully.
-
That looks delicious Susie! :-*
Attention Julie O.....stop cleaning up your photobucket Pics!!! :P
Question....we have several packages of minute steaks from our last moo.....is that the same as skirt?
-
Sorry mum, have put the photo back..... :-[
-
Minute steak isn't skirt steak maddy. It's not a top grade cut like rump, sirloin or fillet - it's either blade or chuck steak from memory.
-
Sorry mum, have put the photo back..... :-[
LOL...Thank-you muchly :D
Ta Judy.... I really should be more educated, considering we've been breeding cattle for years :P
I just bag it all up as quickly as possible.....eww....could easily be vegetarian!

I made this one last night for dinner, enjoyed by the whole family. I used chicken and after I shredded it I added about half the dressing meant for the salad - I was worried the chicken would go dry, and we dont use a whole lot of dressing on our salad anyway. I served it with corn chips a la nachos. All in all it was delicious and leftovers the next day were just as good. Will do our meat this way more often, and DH even wants to introduce 'taco tuesdays' based on this recipe alone! 5/5

Made this on Thursday for dinner. Next time I would halve the dressing as it made a fair amount and only hubby and I had it. I used rump steak and it worked beautifully. (http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/09/8bb83f65759074ae022bf4fda522798d.jpg)
