Can I make my own besan flour by just milling dried chick peas, or does something need to be done to them first? I can't remember if these are one of the poisonous until cooked beans. Hope someone knows and can advise me.

i'm not sure, sorry caroline. let me know if you'd like me to google it...

I'd be really grateful if you have time, Brazen.

ok, found a few sources that said you can easily make your own and none that said you can't. i also remembered that the GFWF book has a flatbread recipe made from ground chickpeas (i wasn't very keen on the recipe but at least it proves it's ok)

You should be able to make it but it may be necessary to sieve and then re-blitz a few times for the right texture.

Thanks so much. I'll give it a try.

Sorry I have missed this one! Yes you can blitz them, and use them in soup, we do it here in Spain, not poisonous as we are all still alive! Hope this helps! Just blitz the dried chick peas until powder and add to thicken up soups and stews!

Thanks bron - just thought - there are different chickpeas - some are harder and drier - they may be better for flour?

Wouldn't know, here they all look the same to me, very dry and very hard, but make magnificent powder! ;D
