hi l made tomato sauce from EDC pg 62
l also added vegies carrot , capisum, beans, brolli, zuhinni, onion, garlie
the first lot l made was yummy l made it on the stovetop , pureed it and bottled it so the kids could not see the vegies
second lot l made in the slow cooker as l thought it could cook while l slept and save me time
boy was l wrong , wont do that again
it taste gross , no flauour at all , l put it in to a pot and boil it to reduce it down and l roasted in oven more tomatos ,garlie and basil
to give it a bit of flauour but still taste gross and smells that way too
does anyone have any ideas as to what l can add to make it a semi nice sauce as l dont want to throw it away as it is in two 11 litre pots now
hope some one can help

I add some balsamic vinegar and a (very little) bit of sugar to my tomato sauce which tends to enhance the tomato flavour. So that may be worth a try? And perhaps add some tomato paste?
-
l have apple cyder vinger, brown and white vinger , would that work

I'm no help re the sauce but I always seem to get dissapointing flavourless results whenever I cook ANYTHING in the slow cooker. Hence, I never really use it anymore :(

Sorry Nazar - only just saw your reply. I'm not sure whether those vinegars would work as they are quite acidic. You could always take a small amount of the sauce and add a few drops of the apple cider vinegar and a bit of sugar and see what it tastes like....

:) I made a tomato sauce on Sunday, added tomato paste, brown sugar, vinegar, garlic, rosemary, chilli flakes, salt, five spice,
It was great,

When I make tomato relish and sauce I don't add the vinegar at all, I add 2 tbs of ezy sauce instead. Just how I like it. Yum yum.
-
Dede, what is ezy sause?

Sorry I couldn't find a better picture. It's a bottle of different spices etc to add to relishes and sauces. Its pretty potent stuff lol. But you only need to use a small amount per 1kg of tomatoes.
I used to put a full bottle in with a full boiling of 8-9 kg of tomatoes. I much prefer this than vinegar but that's what I was brought up on.

This is the original recipe on the side of the bottle for relish.
I have adapted this recipe for the TM but in 1kg (tomato) lots. Really is yummy. Will see if I can find the tomato sauce recipe.
Ezy-Sauce Tomato Relish
8.5kg ripe tomatoes, skinned & sliced
3kg onions, sliced
4 level tablespoons mustard powder
4 level tablespoons curry powder
mix last two with water to a thin paste
3kg sugar
1 bottle Ezy Sauce
115g flour
Put in a dish tomatoes, onions and salt. After 12 hours empty all into pan. When boiling add mustard and curry powder paste. Now add sugar and Ezy Sauce and boil about 2 1/2 hours. Then minutes before end of boiling add flour made into a thin paste with water. Pour into hot sterilized jars and seal.

Ezy-Sauce Tomato Sauce
9kg sliced ripe tomatoes
1.5kg onions, chopped fine
115g garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon ground ginger (mix into thin paste)
1.5kg sugar
140g salt
1 bottle Ezy Sauce
Boil together for 3 1/2 hours tomatoes, onions, garlic and ground ginger. Then strain and add about 1.5kg sugar, salt and Ezy Sauce. Simmer until thick enough (1 hour or more) and bottle. For a thicker sauce add 1.5 or 2kg of apples.

Both woolies and Coles usually stock it, I can find it in most small supermarkets as well (IGA).
My mum Always used Ezy-Sauce and I just love the flavors it adds to sauces and relish.

I'll look for it tomorrow when I go shopping.
Thanks, Robyn
