Hi there everyone,
Just wanted to Introduce myself.
After a twelve month battle, I think I have finally convinced my hubby that I really deserve a Thermomix! He never had a problem with the price but was more concerned it would be a very expensive piece of equipment that would sit on the kitchen bench. I suppose in a way, I had the same concerns myself. However, after discovering this great forum and also links to many websites with some great recipes, I now know I'm going to be using it loads. I am a big fan of making my own bread and would love to drink more juice but was never really willing to get the juicer out with all it's parts to wash for one small glass. I think the thermomix will see to it that I get that daily juice!
I'm also a mum to two small boys and think that the Thermomix is going to help me get a more varied diet into them. I tend to make a lot from scratch (I make my own tomato sauce rather than buying Dolmio, for example) and I think the thermomix will help me do that sort of thing in a shorter amount of time. I really want to try new foods with them and by the sounds of things thermomix makes experimenting that little bit easier.
The whole thermomix jargon has me all confused but I'm sure it becomes second nature once I use the machine. Please tell me it does!
Anyway, I have a demo organized for Tuesday and I've been given the green light to purchase if I want to ;D. So excited!
-
Welcome. How very exciting for you. You are right, the jargon becomes second nature when you use the machine. I'm sure you will be excited on Tuesday.
-
Welcome brumington to the forum. I don't think you will ever regret buying yourself a TM. You are absoulutly going to love it. And yes it will definitely make life easier and preparation so much quicker. After over a year I am still amazed how quick it takes to chop up ingredients. Love love love it. Hope you have your TM real soon.
-
Hi brumington, welcome to the forum. The TMX sounds perfect for what you intend making in it so I foresee no problems with it not being used. You will end up making things you never thought you would so be prepared for some surprise recipes on our forum eg Worcestershire Sauce (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=2314.0).
This (http://www.smoothieweb.com/) is my favourite smoothie website.
Enjoy your demo on Tuesday and let us know when you take delivery of your machine.
-
Hi and welcome to the forum brumington.Enjoy your demo on Tuesday, you are going to love the TM in action ;) Come back an tell us all about it ;D
-
Hi and welcome to the forum brumington. you will love having a TM so will your DH, will he be at the demo ?
-
Welcome Brumington. When I bought my TMX I was determined that it would not become an expensive toy and that I would get full use out of it, so the way I made sure that that didn't happen was to ensure that it stayed out on the bench at all times - that way it is easy to access it and not forgotten in a drawer or cupboard.
The jargon is easy, just think of it as setting the oven temperature and the timer, etc. However, after one or two uses you will get used to that. The thing to remember is to always set the time first, then the temperature and speed. I could never remember the correct order until I hit on thinking of the biscuit, TIMTAM (one of my favourite chocolate biscuits). Tim = time and, well, tam means nothing at all, but by the time I got to tam I had remembered to set the time and everything was fine!
Enjoy your TMX and the forum.
Judy, thanks for the smoothie link :)

Welcome to the forum Brumington. You will never regret buying yourself a TMX, enjoy your demo. :)
-
Thank you all for such a warm welcome. Can't wait togetmy machine and start trying some of these recipes rather than just reading about them!
Thanks for the great smoothie website judydawn. Some of those recipes sound yum.
I'm hoping, despite the initial outlay, this machine will start savings some money too. Has anyone found you are saving a lot on groceries? I read on the uk website it saves you around a thousand pounds a year. I wonder if the equivalent is true in oz?
-
Yes, one way or another, you will save heaps of money.
Many of us have found that this isn't the case initially as we were all buying ingredients that we had never used before, but once you've stocked up your cupboards you will see your grocery bills coming down.
-
Excellent! I had a feeling that I would be spending a lot more to begin with on stuff I didn't have yet but hoped that eventually I'd start saving.
-
Brumington yes u will save money on food shopping, but dont start reading the shopping thread.........you will be sorry ;D
-
Lol. I have a family of 7 and definitely find I save money, especially for school/work lunches. I would hate to buy the things I make as it would cost me a small fortune.
I do a big cook up on the weekend to last the family for the week.
I also found I save money on making things from scratch rather than buying them. And Takeaways is not very often as I can make stuff that's tastier. We don't buy pizza at all anymore cause it's so easy to make pizzas.
But like everyone else said don't expect to see any savings for the first couple of months.
I have had my TM since Jan 2011 and I'm fairly confident that it's paid for itself with groceries savings already.
-
Wow, really dede? That's great to hear.
Oh no fundj, you have me intrigued by the shopping thread now!
-
NO don't visit the shopping Thread, it's dangerous. The other members spot these fantastic savings (or not) and you get this overwhelming urge to buy one too.
You have been warned lol ;D
-
Hello and welcome to the forum Brumington. You and DH will thoroughly enjoy cooking with the thermomix.
My dear friend has 2 boys aged 9 & 12 - she said she has noticed a big difference in their behaviour since baking all her own bread and snacks without the preservatives. Let us all know when your thermomix arrives.
-
How
How long after you order it does it usually take? I'm so impatient! I'm buying tomorrow at the demo. Will I be baking before Easter? LOL!
-
Are you in WA? If so there is a remote possibility but if not I don't think you will be. :'( :'( :'(
-
Welcome to the forum, I have been away for four days and the first thing I did after opening the door was turn on the TMX and throw in the ingredients for a risotto, it cooked while I unpacked the car, I've just had the left overs for dinner tonight, very yummy. You will love it.
-
Welcome to the forum.
-
Welcome Brumington, you and the TMX sound like the perfect match! A word of warning on saving money - I definitely save money on food shopping but I've spent lots on Tupperware! Because I now use so many base ingredients I never used before I needed LOTS more containers. And since my best friend is a tupperware consultant I can't go and buy the cheap stuff ;D
-
... have you been tempted by the shopping thread yet? It's dangerous ground.
-
What is the shopping thread?
-
:-)) :-X
-
So, I had my demo yesterday. Had a great day and my rep is just beautiful.
I've decided we are definitely getting one, just have to wait a couple of months to get the money up together. I was hoping I could buy at the demo but after some unexpected and rather large bills coming our way it now has to be put on hold for just a little longer. How long after the demo do you have to buy in order to get the thermoserver?
I'm now totally confused though. I was under the impression that you could only buy from a rep. Now I see they are available to purchase online for a reduced price. Are the other ones the real deal? What is the difference? ???
I've had a look at that shopping thread - dangerous ground. And don't get me started on Tupperware deedub!
-
What is the shopping thread?
Swanscook, this (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6682.0) thread is 151 pages long and it is where we tell or show you what we have bought - some of us are prolific shoppers, not me but you will see one person in particular who loves shopping :D :D You may like to start at page 151 and work your way back or you will be there for a week.

Hi brumington and welcome to the forum. Why not pop over and enter in the poll (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=395.msg89754;topicseen#msg89754) so we can keep track of where our members are from.
We have lots of delicious recipes here that our members have kindly posted - and here is my current list of favourites (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6470.0) (which needs updating soon) - we also look forward to hearing from you if you have any queries, comments or converted recipes of your own to offer.
-
Creampuff, what a fantastic list. I can't wait to try some of these out. I really want my Thermomix NOW! ;)
-
Brumington, they say patience is a virtue, but it's oh so hard to remember that whilst you wait for your TMX! The big day will come, just hang in there and keep on the forum, we'll keep you amused and informed.
-
Welcome to the forum.
-
Welcome to the forum, Brumington,
The shopping thread is fun, and we love shopping and cooking.
I'm sure you will get your thermomix.
Robyn

Thanks again for all the warm welcomes. I'm hoping the TMX will be coming into out lives sooner rather than later and in the meantime I will continue to obsess and build a recipe collection.
Can somebody please answer me a question.....I get the impression from what I've been reading that the book which comes with the machine really only has mediocre sorts of recipes. I know I must start with these to get used to the machine, but how long after were people confident enough to try things on the forum or to experiment themselves? Is it easy to convert a normal recipe?
-
i am not a fan of the EDC many of the recipes are wrong or taste or should i say tasteless.
there is a few things i make from the EDC
1 bechamel sauce
2 sticky date pudding, but not the sauce
3 coppa delle nonno
-
I have found that a lot of the recipes in the Everyday Cookbook (which comes with the machine and often referred to on the forum as EDC) need tweaking. If you find a recipe in the cookbook search for it on the forum to see if others have already tweaked it or made suggestions to improve/change it.
A lot of recipes are easy to convert - you can often look at an existing thermomix recipe to get an idea of how to convert a favourite. Or ask on the forum - some very wise folk can always help!
-
I'd get the feel of the machine before I started converting - it is a powerful machine and you need to get your chopping times down pat first. I'd do as Bonsai has said, check out the recipe reviews here (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=8487.0) before doing any of the EDC recipes. It can be very helpful to check what others think first.
Having said that, after trying a couple of simple recipes it is not a big step up to do any of the forum recipes. My theory is (once you have mastered the controls on the TMX), if you can read you can cook. CP's favourite recipes so far (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6470.0) list is a good place to start.

YEE-HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
I ordered my thermomix today! So excited........ ;D
-
Thought you would Brumington. Whilst you are awaiting delivery, I'd suggest you give the house a good clean, get the washing and ironing up to date because once you receive it, you won't have time to do any of the other for a while. ;)
-
LOL judydawn! How will I get all of that done while I search in every spare moment for new recipes on this forum? ;)
-
You won't :D :D :D :D
-
Yay brumington, great news. The waiting will almost kill you lol. Hope you receive your TM very quickly :)
-
YEE-HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
So excited........ ;D
;D ;D Yup!! Kinda does that to you!! ;D ;D
You'll have a ball when it arrives - !!
-
Hello and welcome Brumington. Woohoo your wait is nearly over. Once you get started you will wonder how you ever lived without it. Last night I cooked the Ragu (spaghetti Bol sauce) in it ready for dinner tonight. So quick and easy. Tonight I will make bechamel sauce and put my lasagna together and into the oven. So easy with thermomix as there is no standing and stirring, and my bechamel sauce is smooth and easy to pour. Both the Ragu and bechamel sauce recipes are in the EDC.
Take Care and Happy Cooking
