I was making coconut milk the other day and needed muslin cloth to strain it. Didn't have any so used a chux wipe instead which was fine but just wondering where I would buy muslin cloth from?
-
I don't know where you live, but I get mine from suppliers of cheese making equipment (usually home cheesemakers).

I am pretty sure I bought my last lot from Spotlight.

Most fabric shops will have muslin (although you would probably have to ask and make sure you pre-wash it before using it). If you foresee using it a lot, purchasing a purpose made jelly bag can save heaps of time and hassle - you can get them (along with a purpose made stand to hold it upright over a bowl) from good kitchen ware shops.
-
Oh yes, Cuilidh, I had forgotten about jelly bags and they are the right shape as well :-)) :-))

I have been thinking about buying some muslin, and then remembered that my mum always used to use stockings to drain her cottage cheese. Always worked for her - I guess they are like Chux.
-
I found my muslin in a kitchenware shop but any fabric store should have some.
-
I use a wire stainer lined with the cheapest chux type cloth.

I use the muslin wraps that I used to swaddle my babies in. They work really well and can be folded over a few times if needed. You can get them from target, Kmart etc. I got the three pack from target when they were half price (during the baby sales they always go half price). I think they worked out at $8 for a pack of three.

I use a bra bag ;D

I'm with you Uni I use the Bra bag too. Lingerie (probably spelt wrong )Bag I think is the right term. I strain my almond milk with this it is good. But I could get some Muslin from Spotlight.

Good to see you back Fundj.

I buy it by the metre in spotlight very cheap ( much cheaper than kitchen stores) and cut it in to pieces as I need it. They sell it as cooking muslin or baby muslin but you have to ask as it is often kept under the counter
-
Kitchenware shops should also stock cheesecloth muslin (a bit more coarse than butter muslin). It should be in a cellophane/plastic bag....probably about 2.5 metres folded up. The brand would probably be Dline (its a Donaldson product). It probably works out more expensive per metre than going somewhere like spotlight.

LOL I could use one of my lacie lingerie (http://www.robustbuy.com/womens-clothes-lingerie-sets-c-1083_1085_1088.html) sets ;)

Welcome to the forum Exced1960. It is funny. Imagine if someone called in and you had red and black lingerie pegged over a bowl. I wonder what excuse they would use to leave hurriedly.
