Title: Turkish Apple Tea from Alyce Alexandra
Post by: snappy on May 11, 2012, 11:05:01 am
This is a free recipe on Alyce's website if you are registered on her mailing list.  It came into my inbox and I thought I want to try that sometime soon.

This week I have a horrible cough and cold and seeing as this tea has both honey and lemon I thought I would give it a try instead of a regular honey and lemon drink.  I followed the recipe exactly, the only exception being that I used green apples rather than red apples because that was what was in the fruit basket.

The Verdict: this tea is very simple to make and tastes absolutely delicious.  It is going to be my regular cold and flu drink from now on! It makes quite a lot (maybe 1.5 liters) so I'm going to refrigerate some and try it cold over the weekend.  Highly recommended.

And a big thank you to Alyce for making these available free of charge!  I've just ordered my copy of QFITT as my mothers dY present and I am looking forward to receiving it.

Thanks for doing this last night GF - I was offline early with this silly cold.

I've just heated up some more of this tea that I kept in the fridge overnight.  Still delicious and tasty the second day

Okay someone please explain where I went horribly wrong with this recipe?

I had a high tea party the other day and attempted to make this, thinking it was yum and easy, but not so.
As per the recipe here: http://www.alycealexandracookbooks.com/Free%20Recipes/Turkish%20Apple%20Tea.pdf

It says 200grams of earl grey tea. Now 200grams of tea is sooo much tea.
I only had a 100gram bag, but even that was too much. Is it suppose to be 20grams?

There was sooo much tea in the thermomix bowl that it was a horrible mess.
And you could only put a drop into the coffee cup and then had to fill it up with hot water to totally dilute it. Even then it wasn't very nice. When it say "200grams" of tea, does it not mean tea leaves?

Oh paperfreak!  I use 200g (about 1 cup) of brewed EG tea. I use 2 teabags because i like my tea strong in a cup of hot water and then pour that tea into the mix.

Hopefully your afternoon tea was just as delicious without it!

When I was just looking at your photo, I thought perhaps it was brewed tea you had used and not LEAVES!
I didn't think of that while making the recipe, as I couldn't see the sense in then adding a liter of water to the already brewed tea.
Not that the recipe actually said "tea leaves", but foolishly that is what I assumed.

Fortunately we had ginger and lemongrass lemonade and lots of other goodies at the high tea to enjoy, but we all had a good laugh about this disaster. Even after showing others the recipe, no one said I think it means brewed tea. We all thought it meant tea leaves

Oh paperfreak I am so sorry - I meant brewed tea! When writing the recipe that seemed obvious to me but now you have brought it up I can see where the confusion stems from. Just as if you were making a cup of tea to drink for yourself.

Glad that you had other delights at the tea party! I hope you do try the apple tea recipe again - I promise its a good one! If you do ever have a query about an ingredient prior (or post in this case!) to making a recipe please do not hesitate to contact me at alyce@alycealexandracookbooks.com

All the best!
Alyce

Ah, such a simple little mistake! Perhaps you could update the recipe so others don't make the same mistake... or is no one else a bad a cook as me!??

I will try it out again for sure! An excuse to host another high tea party!

I thought the same thing Paperfreak until it came time for me to buy the tea ... I was standing in the shopping aisle thinking this is an awful lot of tea leaves when it dawned on me  :-[ :-[

Yes the recipe clearly needed to be more precise! I have changed it to say brewed tea - this should prevent any future confusion!! The amended version is available for download now. Thanks so much paper freak for bringing this to my attention.

Alyce we all respond differently when we read certain things and it isn't until someone else reads them differently that we see how it could be. Your response has been pleasurable to read and engage in  :-* :-*
