Starters and Snacks / Re: Rough Puff Pastry
« on: December 05, 2011, 09:03:02 pm »
I made this yesterday - thanks Meganjane.  I didn't however let it rest as I ran out of time.  I was intending to use bought pastry, but it was too old and yuk so did a quick search and used this.  It was delightful.  Very short as it hadn't rested.  But I'll never buy pastry again.  It's a big recipe, easily halved.  But I have 2 batches in the freezer now.  Thanks again.

I made this for the first time tonight and YUM.  I have resisted as I knew once I made it - I'll make it again and again.  Ridiculously easy, so so moist and fluffy.  I did muffins so plenty for the freezer.  The sauce was not as rich as I have had in the past but it was very very yummy.  DH said it was the best caramel I've ever made - not that I've made many!  So yes, this is definitely a keeper and repeater.  Good enough for a dinner party dessert and easy enough for a weeknight treat.

Thanks everyone.  I probably have been a bit slack in the chopping size of hard vegetables so perhaps inadvertently overloading :( anyhoo, my consultant is no longer selling but I've found another who lives close by and has a set of blades I can buy today.  So I will still contact HO (not sure if I bought at the end of Aug 09 or 08) but at the very least I've got new blades today.  I was having withdrawals already!
Thanks again

It was August 09.  I can remember sitting next to you at the class and convincing you.  ;) ;D So glad that you have got it sorted.
Thanks Chelsea. I kinda thought it was 09 but the brain is mush!  Yes it's all good now.

Thanks judydawn - yes learnt the hard way.  Thermie is now cooking away last nights tea!  The consultant did say that it shouldn't matter as long as the pieces weren't bigger than the MC whole which I didn't do.  She's going to talk to HO anyway.  Either way, I am not without a thermomix!

Sounds like there is something wrong with the spindle on which the blades sit. They spin around this axis. Too loose a spindle = no spin at all. A little loose = no spin with resistance. Absolutely tight = spin at all times (normal behaviour)

Well I guess if that's the case, new blades are still the end result aren't they?  Cause I would imagine it's a complete set that sits down in to the bowl?  Or perhaps back to HO for repair?

The only time it doesn't spin is when it has something "heavy"  it still spins in half a bowl of water.  I will leave the blades in the freezer overnight and try with ice and hard vegies again in the morning.
Thanks for the replies.

My powers of deduction (and my hope) tell me that it's blunt bades.  Today I have made fruit smoothies, a whole orange cake including grinding almonds and a butter cream icing with no issues.  As per pp the blades spin when the bowl is empty or with water and just prior to this I had cut up onions by dropping them on to the spinning blades with no dramas.  I can still drop sweet potato on to the spinning blades and it cuts them finely.  It's just when it gets some resistance.  So blades are in the freezer and fingers are crossed.

Thanks Dede.  They move with nothing in them but as soon as there is anything of weight in there - even a bit of vegies they won't.  It's make the noise but no action :( sounds expensive doesn't it!

Chit Chat / Are my blades ruined?

Hi
yes wrong section I know but I am posting here hoping for more traffic.
I am wondering if my blades are ruined.  I have just gone to make family chowder and the blades won't spin.  I've taken every thing out and it spins empty and with just water but as soon as I put in any vegies to chop - no go.  Just a spinning sound but no movement, not even on reverse.  Are they blunt?  Are they dead?  Other than freezing the blades - any other suggestions?
TIA

I just made this - half SR flour and a cup of almonds ground.  I made them in to cupcakes and iced with an orange butter icing adapted from a butter cream recipe in the bimby chocolate cake thread.  YUM.  So so moist.  I'm going to use this as a dessert cake and make a warm orange syrup to serve.  So easy and delicious!

I made MJ's recipe adaptation of Brazen's as above today and OH YUM.  With some basic cream cheese icing it was very very nice.  Similar to the Sara Lee frozen one.

I might try these tomorrow - I'm looking for lunch box alternatives and this might be a good one.

Cakes / Easy Peasy Chocolate Slice
« on: November 24, 2010, 10:28:12 am »
Hi
I made this today and it really is very easy, even easier with a TMX!  And ingredients that are usually in the pantry.

I got this recipe from http://www.melissagoodsell.typepad.com/ but I'm not sure if she got it from somewhere else.

125g butter in to  *: melt 2min 100deg sp 2
Add
160g SR flour
85g coconut
100g sugar (I used organic raw and was fine)
10g cocoa

Mix 1min  :-: sp2 scraping sides as necessary

Press firmly in to a slice tin.

Cook in moderate oven 10-15min - don't overcook as will become very hard and too crunchy.

Ice if desired and eat!

Note:  I cooked mine for 12 min 160oC and is a little undercooked but still very yummy

ETA further instructions!

cottchick - it was so easy and quick (and I can already feel the extra kilos!!). Thanks for the recipe.

jezzamiff - Super easy recipe, took no time at all to make but mine is also a bit undercooked - a bit soft and crumbly.  I cooked it at 180 for 12 mins, so I think you don't need to be TOO concerned about overcooking it.

Debbiebillg - I doubled the mixture for the size of tin I was using and it was really yummy. Almost gone already.  A big hit with the kids.

Denzelmum -  made this, only had 60gr coconut left.  It's between cookies and brownies.  Made a very thin, only about 1 cm high and I don't bother making icing.  Treat for DD's lunch box.
