Mmm my mum used to cook these for lunch, however we knew them as mock whiting.  Not sure how they ever got such a name.

This is something (along with the German potato soup)  I now regularly make to freeze in small portions for work lunches or those nights where I can't be bothered cooking.    Now need to expand my collection of yummy recipes.

Sounds utterly sensational.  Will try this out on Sunday I think :)  good excuse to buy a bottle of a fine single malt whisky

Introduce Yourself / Re: Big decision - to buy or not to buy

It's not guaranteed to go totally smoothly the first time and it will take a wee while to get used to the machine and how it works, but it's well worth perservering and it won't be long before you'll wonder how you ever existed before you got the TMX.

One week on from takling delivery of my TMX, I am already wondering how I managed before.  Have had healthy food every day since and Yesterday I had to go and buy food form the cafe next door (left my lovely beetroot sald and tuna on the kitchen table as I headed off for work  :'( )  and could not beleive how bland and oily and horrible the soup was.  Ahhhh becoming very fussy already.

Soups / Re: German Potato Soup (from Canadian cookbook)

I made this soup for dinner last night and it was delicious.  As I am the only one in this household who eats soup, there are three portions now frozen for lunches for work.  Three days where I won't be tempted to go to the cafe next door and spend $10 or so on my lunch.  Now just need to whip up some home made bread rolls to go with the soup.

Ok... mix is proving... LOL

Ah can see I have tempted you too strongly :).  I intend to have another go if I can ever pry the thermomix from DD2 who is currently making ice cream and is determined to experiment as much as possible.

Thanks Karen - it may well be that the four I used had more moisture - but I have added a note to say that you may need more water and milk.

Thanks for being brave and trying these - they probably looked more like muffins.

They did indeed look like muffins :)

Made my first batch of these today, not altogether a success as the batter was far to thick.  Will try more liquid next time.  They tasted great despite looking a bit odd

MY first batch of crumpets did not work out, batter was way too think, although they still tasted good.
German potato soup is now cooking for dinner.  DD1 is grumbling at me as she wants to make orange juice :)

This sounds like a delicious soup, one question though.  Is celery root what we call celeriac here in Aus ?  Also what is half and half

Chit Chat / well, had had my machine for two days now
« on: July 24, 2009, 11:18:29 am »
My thermomix arrived on Wednesday night.  SO far it has made porridge for breaky yesterday was a little thicker than I like so a little more liquid next time.  HAs also made a Yorkshire pudding (still not quite sure why DD 2 made that yesterday), cooked vegies for tea last night and today has made a batch of butterless scones, DD 2 'forgot' to add the butter, they were somewhat heavy but tasted good none the less.

DD1 seems to be scared of the machine, so have to show her how to use it over the weekend.

Tomorrow I am going to try the crumpet recipie form the recipie section here.
