Babies and Kids / Re: Chicken & Corn Chowder - from Family Circle
« on: June 26, 2012, 10:02:44 am »
Just made this tonight. Our almost 6 year old loved it, as did us adults.

Thanks for the recipe. I added only 300ml of milk and that was great for us. I like thicker soups!

That does look nice, Nay-nay. Thanks for the suggestion.

Any other suggestions appreciated.

Chit Chat / QLD advice needed - Waterfalls & Rainforest for holiday
« on: May 30, 2011, 12:45:00 am »
Hi lovely Thermomix people,

Just wondering if the QLDers could offer us some advice. We'll be visiting QLD at the end of the year and are hoping to find some nice waterfalls and rainforest areas (national parks) to visit for a few days. We'll be travelling around Brisbane and Toowoomba area, but happy to go south a few hours if necessary. We'll have a three children, our caravan and of course our TM with us!!

I've read briefly about the Lamington National Park or Girraween National Park... are either of these any good and would they have waterfalls in December (and perhaps even a swimming hole??).

Thanks so much!

Recipe Requests / Super Thick Thick-shake
« on: April 27, 2011, 04:43:16 am »
Hi,

Growing up, my sisters and I used to make really thick thickshakes in our blender. Generally it required a tray of ice (which we had to partly smash up first, otherwise the machine couldn't handle it), milk and fruit (I believe). These thick shakes must have combined lots of air as the outcome was really thick without using any icecream.

I've tried to repeat this in the TM but I just get watery milkshakes with no real thickness at all.

Is there any special trick??? I ideally don't want to have to use heaps of icecream in this process as I'd like to keep these somewhat healthy for my children....

Advice. Appreciated.

Desserts / Re: Chocolate Ice cream - with photo
« on: March 19, 2011, 02:45:35 am »
I just have to say 'wow'. I wasn't sure how this was going to turn out but this is the best icecream I've made so far!!

I followed the instructions initially and then just froze in a cake tin overnight. Took it out of the freezer and left for 5 minutes and then put in the TM 10 seconds on speed 9 and then about 20 seconds on speed 4. Initially went all crumbly but I beat it for longer on speed 4 - and then wow. Wonderful icecream!!! I had some last night and I've refrozen the rest to have tonight.

Thanks for sharing this recipe (can't say it's perhaps all that good for me with mainly cream and chocolate, but it's good nonetheless!).

I would also love this recipe if someone wouldn't mind emailing it to me.... bkmundt@bigpond.com

Thanks!

Yes, I agree that these are great. A pasta maker to roll out the dough to a consistent thickness is VERY useful. Otherwise you'll have some on your tray out of the oven which are over done and some that are not crisp enough - unless you're very skilled at rolling consistant thicknesses with a rolling pin. My husband used to make these when he was a consultant to take to demos, and everyone were always impressed.

Bread / Re: $1 Bread Loaf

Can you tell me how you made the top of the loaf look like that?

I made rolls last night using this same recipe and hubby was very impressed with our salad rolls for lunch today!

Looking forward to making this into a loaf.

I've made this three times now and love it!

Everyone thinks it smells really great when it's cooking and just as great when it's eaten!

Loved by children and adults.

Special Diets / Specific Carbohydrate Diet - Crohn's Disease
« on: July 20, 2009, 05:58:44 am »
Hi TM Users,

Friends of ours have a teenage son with Crohn's Disease. The whole family have followed the 'Specific Carbohydrate Diet' for a year now which has really helped him to gain weight.

My husband who is a TM consultant showed them the TM with the hope that this will make things easier for them. If you have some recipes that would suit, we would really be appreciative.

Things that he can't have are:

Sugar and anything with added sugar. Rice, pasta, wheat, flour, bread, biscuits and cake all made with flour. Foods with high in lactose eg milk, cream, store yoghurt, soft cheeses, margarine, processed meats and foods. Bacon. No popcorn or fruits and veg with hard, thick skins that are indigestible, eg corn, grapes.

He can have fresh chicken, fish, meat and seafood, almond meal, eggs, homemade yoghurt, hard cheese, butter, nuts, honey, fresh fruit and vegetables (except potato, sweet corn, sweet potato).

Basically all foods need to be made from scratch so that they know exactly what is in it.  His mother makes bread, crackers, muffins, biscuits and cake using almond meal instead of flour.

Help appreciated!
