It still looks really good Cookie. My mum used to make the best shortcrust pastry using lard too, loved her apple pies.
I made Walnut Brittle from the US cookidoo which uses the Sugar Stages mode to cook the caramel. I chopped my walnuts 2 secs by mistake instead of 1 so they are smaller than the photo on their site, I also toasted them before hand.
The brittle is delicious, so crispy if that's the right description, it snaps as you bite it without fearing you will break a tooth
Because it cooks it properly in the bowl you don't need to bake it in the oven, takes all the guess work out of it just pour it over the nuts and leave to cool and it breaks with your fingers.
DH is going to be rapt when he gets up soon in readiness of nightshift, will pack some in his lunchbox. I will make some for little gifts for Christmas, a nice change from the normal peanut or almond.
