Recipe Requests / Hot dog sausages in the thermomix?
« on: August 20, 2013, 03:30:18 am »
My son is having his 6th birthday this weekend.  We've hired out a gymnastics centre but have just found out that their kitchen facilities are limited to a microwave and hot dog machine.

We were going to do hotdogs (for the 20+ kids), but I'm thinking it might be too much of a workout for the hot dog machine.

Can you steam frankfurters/cocktail sausages in the varoma or even boil them in the bowl?  If so, do they taste okay...and what are the instructions?

Thanks so much.

Cheers.

Just wondering if I could get some help with grinding coffee beans.  We only got our TM yesterday...so I'm virtually a newborn!

Anyway...

I ground some coffee beans morning (my first time!).

Used the EDC instructions - 30 seconds at speed 9 and the beans were nowhere near ground enough.  Did it again (another 30 seconds at speed 9) and to be honest, there was little difference between the first and second goes.  There was a lot of inconsistency in the fineness of the grounding and seemed to be 'husks'.  Looked very different from what our little Breville coffee grinder does.

Wondering if the issue was that I didn't grind enough beans (ie. only used 12 or so beans as I was experimenting) or is this the best it will do?

We use a presso (which is like a giant old school orange juicer) and need the beans fairly fine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

Introduce Yourself / Having been a cynic, I'm now a convert!
« on: March 10, 2013, 02:39:31 pm »
Hey guys

I've spent the last 3 or so years being cynical about the thermomix...thinking, okay granted, it's a clever machine, but a very expensive clever machine that I wouldn't really use...and that it took away from 'real cooking'...cynical, hey?

Well...things have changed.  I have a little more time on my hands (my son's at PP now) and my concerns about the processed foods have heightened...and I realise that the thermomix will only help my cooking, not stifle it...so...here I am.

Thermomix ordered last week...booked in for my first cooking class in mid march...special ingredients ordered and now just waiting...waiting...waiting...for it to arrive!

Looking forward to joining you in what seems to be an amazing forum.

Cheers.
