Last night I made some Gnocchi and Basil Pesto with bacon, followed these recipes:

Gnocchi
http://www.recipecommunity.com.au/pasta.../gnocchi/28884

Pesto
http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/1904/basil+pesto

Gnocchi recipe is spot on, pesto I'd probably drop the cheese to 45grams cause it was a tad cheesy. I just cooked some bacon on the stove, let it cool and blitzed it for a couple seconds and dropped ontop of the pesto.

Amazing meal, can't wait til the weekend and put it through some more paces :)

Thanks for the kind words everyone, you'll be happy to know the TM is slowly working it's magic grip on all people who have seen it in action.

I've made a strawberry jam for the hell of it.... I don't even normally eat jam but we saw some fresh strawbs and thought why not. It tastes amazing, it's like I've entered the matrix and most off the shelf food just sucks compared to making your own stuff.

Anyway I'm planning on making some jam dots or scones this weekend to accompany the jam, I will post photos when it happens !

Great review Fenix. I must make that mushroom sauce, it sounds delish. AB that's how I cook my morning egg too.

Hey CP,

http://www.recipecommunity.com.au/sauces-dips-spreads-recipes/best-mushroom-sauce/86620

Yep was super simple, delicious and a welcomed addition to a Sunday bbq.

In the last bit I did 3 lots of 1/2 tbsp flour (each spaced out 3 minutes apart) because it was already pretty thick.

So I got the TM5 on Friday night and here's my experience.

Read everything there is to know about the TM31 and TM5 but had never seen one in person.

We made the vegetable stock and it was easy as pie... cut some stuff up and throw it in, wait 20 minutes and done (some light mixing as well but that's pretty much it). I really want to be able to pump out a good set of poached eggs and hollandaise so that was my first test for dinner, I followed the hollandaise recipe and it was pretty amazing (a tad lemony but I'll drop the amount next time). I tried one poaching style by dropping the whole egg in the steaming basket and cracking on a plate when done... was decent but I know my g/f doesn't like the eggs as runny as that.

Hollandaise - 8.5/10
Poached Eggs - 8/10

Some things changed around and I didn't go out on Friday night.... so why not make some pretzels. The dough was SO easy... virtually no flour spilling over the kitchen. Literally followed the recipe and out came perfect dough. I followed Tenina's recipe for pretzels. I made a few minor changes when shoving it in the oven but they came out pretty delicious. Once again I'd change a few things here and there for personal preference but it's so reassuring having a solid base dough to work from that seems FOOL-proof.

Pretzel on Friday night - 9/10
Pretzel on Saturday - 4/10 (She did say they don't last and I found out haha)

On Saturday morning I did poached eggs again but this time followed the recipe chip and dropping the eggs in. One came out perfect and the other was a bit seperated from the yolk. This method has better potential in my eyes, but I'll keep on trying.

I had a wedding all weekend and came home Sunday night. We were having a bbq and I didn't want to start making things in the TM just incase they didn't come out ok (i.e. I hate serving people food that I haven't personally tested before). But I whipped up a mushroom sauce/gravy from the TM site which was super easy and everyone loved it.

Mushroom sauce - 9/10

It's funny because I've already been copping a whole bunch of flack from family and friends about dropping 2k on a kitchen appliance when they can "do the same thing" the traditional ways. I don't like to retaliate too much because I'm not trying to sell anyone anything, I just keep saying to people that yeah I get it but c'mon when was the last time you made dough/fresh pretzels at home (hint: never)? When was the last time you had fresh hollandaise with your dinner? Would you have bothered making that mushroom sauce/gravy with the BBQ or would you have just had generic powder gravy or nothing? For me it's definitely something that compliments the kitchen as opposed to a one stop shop. I don't claim it's gods gift to the kitchen, but I definitely think that getting into the mindset of "Hey this thing that I never would have made before is totally easy to do now", thus bringing fresher/less processed/tastier food(s) into the kitchen.

Just my 2 cents so far to anyone who was in my shoes eagerly awaiting their first TM :)

The Thermomix gods have listened and somehow mine is being delivered tonight !!!!

Time to start really digging through these forums and finding a boat load of recipe inspiration.

I've already checked out Tenina's stuff, she seems to be one happening lady.

Just thought I'd chime in here.... have been waiting for the TM5 to come out for a couple of months and got stuffed around by a friend when putting the order in on day one, and eventually got my order through on the 27/09... it's October and I'm sitting here crossing my fingers that I'll get it before xmas.

It's almost amusing at how popular this machine is.... Any other kitchenware company would be DYING to have this sort of demand on their product and here vorwerk are just paddling along getting to orders when they get to them with very very little support/updates. I'm sure it's insanely busy from the top down but sheesh they must be sitting pretty with all the revenue they're getting.

I know once I get my hands on it I'll forget this wait ever existed but it's pretty frustrating for now.

At the end of the day each and every one of us is parting with 2k for a super duper kitchen appliance and I just find it amazing at how blazay the support is.... I'd really love to just go and buy one from somewhere else but alas, no choice :)

Hey guys,

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask but I thought I'd post here anyway.

I'm waiting for a guy to get back to me about the TM5 (my friend works as a head chef somewhere and got a contact from the TM rep... apparently he's high up etc). It's been a week and I haven't heard anything so I'm torn between waiting longer for the call or just reaching out to a consultant and getting the TM5 as soon as possible.

My main question is, what besides the unit do you expect to get with purchase? An thermosaver, extra thermosaver, extra bowl etc? I'm fairly certain it'll just be the unit but if there are extras floating around I'd like to know that I have some confidence in asking for them :)

Cheers,

TM5 side by side with TM31: http://youtu.be/sS7CYtOupd4

ugggggh I just wanted to punch that guy in the face, what a negative nancy..... we get it.... it's HEAPS similar.

People who paid full price two weeks ago definitely have a valid point that it's frustrating because:
a) Now the TM31 is $300 cheaper
b) The option of the latest model would have been nice

I definitely agree that they seem very very similar and even though I'm a tech nerd I do wonder about the longevity of those locking arms and a touch screen display in the kitchen. But it's still a no brainer that as a new purchaser I'd go the latest model, if anything goes wrong I'll rely on the warranty :)

If you were really counting your chips then there's no better time to pickup a TM31, it's 90% the same machine for probably 30% less $$$

Good morning ladies (and gents)

... Isn't this the morning we've all been waiting for !!!

At a glance, yes I expected more but am still excited for the little additions and overall design of the TM5. I guess from my POV I was already happy to purchase a TM31 over the competitors, so the TM5 is an extra 10% reason to solidify that decision. I would have liked to have seen a bunch of new features added but considering this will be my first thermal mixer I've got a lot of ground work to cover from the get go.

Not sure I'd be rushing to upgrade if I'd already owned a TM31 for a couple of years, but I guess when you consider a good resale value then the difference would be worth it.

Overall, I'm just happy the cat is out of the bag.... and now..... when can I get my grubby mitts on one :)

Fake or not? Out there tonight.

Looks cool, similar to the patents as well. Wouldn't be surprised if this is some sort of mock photo.

I'm already sold on the TM brand over competitors so it would take a really ugly piece of kit to make me not want to commit to the purchase.

I'm sure everyone involved from the top right down to the consultants have to sign NDA's so it's understandable things are tight lipped. Imagine how many people work on the latest Iphone and they generally only get leaked at the very last minute and there's probably thousands of people involved in R&D / production.

When's the supposed date that we'll hear something official? I know it's sometime in September but not sure.

You guys are obviously current TM champions whereas I'm hanging out for this new model as an entry into the TM world.

Some bits and pieces I've seen on the HMP that would be awesome on the new TM model would be:
- Single degree heating instead of blocks of 10
- Hotter maximum temperature (ability to brown foods etc)
- Being able to use/upload predetermined recipes (not sure how helpful this would actually be but seems like a cool idea)
- Wait feature (cook a certain recipe at a certain degree, when it's done let it cool to a lower temperature and keep it warm at that temp. Once again, not sure how useful this is because I hear the thermo servers keep food really warm... but once again would be nice).

Also if we want to hear of a crazy idea, the ability to go cold cold cold and do ice creams. One of the HMP models does it but its like 4-5k so I doubt anyone would fork out DOUBLE the cost just to do cold, but if it was only 10-25% extra, I'd consider it :)

Keep the rumours/gossip flowing I say !

Hi all, thanks for the welcoming :)

Yep totally no rush on my end, hopefully it comes out in the next 4-8 weeks but as long as it comes out sometime this year I'll be happy. I think I'm breaking the mold in convincing my girlfriend how awesome it will be when I/we get one as opposed to the other way around (which I keep seeing as a recurring theme on sites/forums about the TM).

@kyton
Did you have to do any weird power conversions once you got your TM from Germany? Not sure if the TM has a fixed cable and you just get a converter for the plug into the wall or if you can get an AU cable straight into the unit?

... also yes I am awaiting the new iphone this year and going to Bali at the end of September for 2 week holiday so it's spoil spoil spoil at the moment. In case anyone wasn't sure about the new iphones it's been pegged that the new ones will be a 4.7 inch version and a 5.5 inch version. The current 5/5s is 4 inch so even the base size of the iphone 6 will be noticeably bigger.

Happy Friday !!!

First post, Hi !

The thought of buying a TM has come and gone a few times in the past 5 years and I mentally made the decision about 6 weeks ago. Being a 30 year old IT nerd (male (Sydney)) who loves his gadgets I did some digging into TM's vs HMP vs Thermochefs vs Breville vs Kogan's one and everything else I could find.

I came to the conclusion that:
a) I don't want to buy an inferior product by saving a buck which will just annoy me and I'll end up buying a better one 6 months later
b) I don't want to take a chance on another less reputable brand for the same (if not) more money.
c) I don't want to import a TM to save 10-20% of the cost and have 0 support
d) Did some research and took a punt on a new TM model coming out and I was right !!! (hopefully :))

So yes I've been eagerly checking this thread for news because it seems to be the only useful resource I can find, just thought I'd chime in with my two cents and let you know that I'm eagerly waiting in anticipation :)
