Chit Chat / Re: What did you name your TM?« on: December 16, 2009, 01:16:10 am »
And here I was thinking we were weird for giving it a name!
Originally we wanted to go with something German, but it turns out all we know is the nickname my favourite aunty called me as a child (and kitten didn't seem appropriate for a Thermomix) and swear words/phrases taught to us by a few exchange students and back-packers. So somehow the name 'Stella' came to mind and was quickly agreed upon by family. She may be the new kitchen b*tch but in less than 24hrs has already shown herself to be a Star 3
Recipe Book Recipe Reviews / Re: Review Garlic & Herb Dip (EDC)« on: December 15, 2009, 11:24:05 pm »It must be just a question of our own taste cause i enjot putting 2 cloves in and a variety of different herbs fresh picked from the garden - mint, pinapple sage, thyme, chives, parsly, garlic chives, basil (my fave) I also put a splash of milk in to make it into a dip consistency. You can always taste the freshness in this dip. I also used two cloves and a splash of milk to get the consistency and taste we like. Will try with a variety of fresh herbs next time next time (I actually thought about grabbing some mint to add when picking parsley) as it sounds scrumptious! 4

Thank-you for sharing this Bron
My Thermomix (Stella) arrived yesterday and I made this for dinner last night. I accidentally missed the part where I should have cooked the chopped veggies for a bit without the tomatoes, and we rolled 15 balls instead of 22, but it still cooked to perfection in the time you gave and we now have a new family favourite that is super quick and easy - I'm extremely grateful! 5
Introduce Yourself / Re: Kia Ora from New Zealand« on: December 12, 2009, 09:36:50 pm »
Thank-you all for the warm welcome
I'll be sure to keep in mind the slower speeds & less time when following the EDC cookbook, cheers for the tip Thermomixer. Most of all I want to try the recipes shared here, and converting my own favourites. 6

Thank-you for sharing your reviews Jen.
We don't have this book in NZ (or any other than EDC actually), which is a real shame as it sounds like the one I would be most interested in. Love Indian food! 7
Introduce Yourself / Kia Ora from New Zealand« on: December 11, 2009, 09:51:27 pm »
Before last week I had never even heard of a Thermomix!
I was looking to replace my kenwood as I've promised it to my daughter who is setting up her first home and was thinking of getting a kitchenaid, but I also wanted a juicer so went online to see what there was available and I discovered the Thermomix. I was wow'd by all the claims of what it could do, and impressed with the clips I watched on youtube. My youngest son is intolerance to various additives, preservatives, and salicylates, so this also seems like a wonderful machine to help me make some of the food he usually misses out on, spreads, ice treats etc. And I'm sure it will save me time both in the kitchen and in the shop as I have to read every label to see what's 'really' in that can or packet. I had my demo yesterday which was a lot of fun, and expect my machine to be delivered next Wednesday *yay* so I'm reading through all your posts and book-marking recipes I want to try. Thanks to everyone who is sharing their experiences, hopefully once the learning period is over and I get to being creative I can too. 8

News about Thermomix / Re: Look out for our New Zealand Cousins - Soon to be flooding on here!!« on: December 11, 2009, 06:43:11 pm »
Thanks everyone for the contact details.
There are only 6 consultants in NZ so far, four in the north island and two in the south. I was very lucky to have found one willing to drive the 3 hours to my home and we met yesterday. My consultant has only had her machine for 10 days and this was her first demo outside a few friends in her own kitchen, so she showed me what they taught in the recent week-end training and cooking class, and we figured out a few more things together. She encouraged me do some recipes myself to get a feel for pressing the buttons and attaching the components of the machine properly, so together we made raspberry sorbet, garlic and herb dip, coleslaw, milled wheat and made bread rolls, and a pasta dish with beans and grated cheese to sprinkle on top. It was all delicious and being a somewhat creative cook myself I could see endless possibilities. After a fun and informative couple of hours I sent her away with some of my sourdough starters from France and Italy, as well as an order for my very own Thermomix. It's due to arrive next Wednesday and I just can't wait! We also agreed that once she does the training on the varoma she'll come back and teach me about that too, and in the meantime we're going to email each other about the recipes and experiments we try. Oh and I recommended she check out this forum for further tips and tricks 10

I'm in NZ and would like to know where I can get one. I live in the country so can't attend a demo.
