I have ordered this from bookdepository at a considerable price reduction from thermomix uk. I believe they post worldwide. They have a number of thermomix books in various languages I've noticed

Suggestions and Complaints / Re: Grinding Cinnamon

I tried a couple of sticks and they were absolutely dry - my thought was that it doesn't do small quantities well

Suggestions and Complaints / Grinding Cinnamon
« on: November 18, 2010, 03:35:52 pm »
Have to say that I am not wildly impressed with the grinding of cinnamon - probably 6 minutes on speed 10 and I still have flakes rather a finely ground cinnamon which I wanted

Anyone any ideas or is this just the best that the Thermomix does on such spices

I have loads of blackcurrants in freezer - I would like to make blackcurrant jam in the Thermie - does anyone have a recipe that works or is there one I can adapt?

Introduce Yourself / Another Thermomix Virgin
« on: September 17, 2010, 10:57:19 am »
Hi I've been lurking and posting for a little while - having finally disposed of all the kitchen stuff I never use I had made the decision to finally acquire my very own when to my utter amazement it turned up on my doorstep as a present from my best friend to whom I had been talking about it quite a lot !

So now after unpacking and looking at the machine for some time, reading the manual  I'm wondering where to start, what to do etc

Exciting and scary!

Any tips from other Thermomix virgins and new users gratefully received

I am in the UK so would be interested to know which of the cookery books any UK users find the best

Introduce Yourself / Re: A few questions before I take the plunge - UK

Many thanks for this help - yes I n eed to cook food and take to my elderly Mum who lives close - at the moment it's all too easy for her to eat ready meals and all that processed junk from the supermarket  - I cannot think that there is any nutritional value at all. So hoping the Thermomix can help!

Introduce Yourself / A few questions before I take the plunge - UK

I have been lurking around the site for a while getting to know more about the Thermomix and the recipes etc  before I finally take the plunge and order one - just wanted to ask a few more questions

1. Have other purchasers felt that their health has actually benefited from properly prepared meals using the Thermomix? I have to cater for an elderly parent who is eating far too much processed and sweet stuff to be nutritionally balanced.  I'm looking to prepare tastier and healthier meals without having to spend hours in the kitchen and was hoping that the Thermomix might help?

2. I am not cooking for a large growing family and wondered if the Thermomix might not be just an excess for two people?

I used to enjoy cooking a lot but recently have somewhat lost my mojo about it - hoping that the Thermomix might bring it back!

I'm another Lakeland addict in the UK - customer service second to none - recently ordered goods and they didn't arrive so they despatched second order and told me to keep first - if you ring up you speak to a human being and not some dreadful call centre. I recently bought a Remoska too and all the staff in the shop told me how they used it

Just got to take the plunge with the Thermomix now.............

I'm hoping to make my Thermomix purchase soon but was interested to know from other users whether using thermomix on regular basis has improved health/eating habits/weight loss etc

I am assuming that reducing the amount of pre processed stuff from the supermarket in favour of freshly prepared food has got to be good but I'd love to hear about user experiences

Katya - thanks so much for your response - I live in Staffordshire - know Sheffield very well - Dad born there and best friend used to live there - it would be good to talk to you about your Thermomix experiences. Basically I love cooking but kind of lost the enthusiasm when my best friend died - we used to spend a lot of time entertaining cooking for friends etc and used the visit Food Shows on a regular basis only to buy gadgets that I never knew I needed which were not used after the initial enthusiasm had worn off ! Enthusiasm is just returning

I have an elderly mother to cater for who will always resort to too much pre packed stuff loaded with sugar and salt so am con cerned about achieving healthier eating and more nutritiious meals

I don't have any particularly food health issues myself beyond love of eating but I am always short on time and big on recipe books and the Thermomix seems like I might be able to prepare better tasting food in less time

In preparation for the Thermomix I have downsized and sold off other appliances - slow cooker, food processor, ice cream maker etc. I'm keeping my Kitchen Aid though because it is great for cakes and it looks good !

Can I ask how you go on for slicing large quantities e.g. for a dauphinois potatoes?

Thanks for some great comments - I'm working my way through the recommended threads.  really helpful  seems like a Thermomix is less of kitchen gadget and more of a changed way of life and that has to be good

Really glad I found this forum

Introduce Yourself / Very Newbie from UK
« on: April 06, 2010, 12:25:11 am »
My name is Mel, from UK - don't know if there are any others from UK on here. I'm just contemplating taking the plunge with the purchase of a thermomix - really seeking feedback from those of you out there you have recently acquired one? How long did it take to get to grips with it? Do you feel it was really worthwhile and won't just sit in the back of the cupboard like lots of my previous stuff! How do you get on with recipes from cookery books which you already own?

Any feedback gratefully received - this is a real big purchase for me and I need some hand holding that I'm doing the right thing!
I think buying a car is probably a lot less hassle!
