Chit Chat / Re: How many doz eggs do you use in a week?
« on: November 19, 2010, 03:13:01 am »
I have 6 Isa Browns- They are rescued Chookies- X Battery Hens. Their feathers are slowly returning which is good.
We generally get 3 or 4 a day and on the odd occasion get 7. Id say we would use about a dozen (just the Two of us)
I like to give my mum eggs too as she happily brings lotsa scraps for them too!

I made the Almond Pav from the EDC the other day (first time ever) and I stuffed up the first batch so that was 8 eggs then only had 6 left so ussed them for the second try. I think its because I used milled raw sugar- too heavy i think. Soo my hubby enjoyed scrambled eggs the next day- 14 egg yolks- needless to say he doesnt feel like eggs this week!!!

i think the flat side goes down because then you dont need to change it when it comes time to drizzle in oil, liquid etc. plus its heaps easier to clean and or lick when the need arises!  :)

Wow I never knew there was a nasties free Custard Powder! I would keep it for sure then!
Our Woolworths doesn’t carry much of anything these days- I think they are just interested in selling their own brand!
Thanks for the info CeeJay

I have used custard powder in the past to give a nice flavour to butter or vanilla cakes also add a bit to waffle mix to make them extra tasty. I will admit that I haven’t used custard powder since I found out about all the nasty’s that are in it. I would be wary about giving it to children with all the additives.

This could be a fun game. We could look in the fridge or pantry, post the ingredients we have and get someone else to tell us a good recipe using the ingredients. It’d almost be like a mystery box challenge hahaha.  :o :o :o

Glad you found your recipe CJ!

Chit Chat / Re: What are you been cooking today
« on: September 07, 2010, 07:38:34 am »
My DH will be coming home from work tonight  :D(Its been nearly 2 weeks since I saw him last) so am making him something yummy. Making Beef casserole and steamed veggies in the Varoma (from the budget busters) but instead of Dumplings I’m going to make yummy crusty Foccacia. It’s a bit wintery here today so casserole will be great! ;D

Good one Chookie.  If I could learn how to cut bread as thinly as you, I might make more bread - that's why I find rolls easier to do, no slicing needed.

Judy- I use an electric carving knife to cut my bread and can get it even and thin. You can also buy a guide that your bread sits in with gaps for the knife (so they are always even and also so the bread doesnt get squashed!)

The bread looks nice Chookie. will have to try it! P.S. why dont you cut into the top of the bread?

Don't cut slashes in top.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Perthie needs a thermomix....now!!

after seeing a demo it took me and my DH around 6months to decide that dipping into our "baby savings fund" would be a great idea. (the TM will benefit the family anyway!) so we did and I was so excited!!
I think you just need to work out what you feel comfortable paying and go with that. Try not to do something you will regret later!! Good luck ;D

Chit Chat / Re: Chicken Drumsticks in the Varoma??
« on: August 23, 2010, 11:30:08 am »
Hi Chelsea

I haven’t actually tried it myself but did see the Chicken Cacciatore recipe in the Meat Lovers cookbook and that cooks the chicken legs in the bowl with the sauce. I haven’t heard seen a recipe for doing them in the Varoma. Good Luck  :)

Hi LizziO

Yep thats true about the pumpkin. You can leave the skin on if it is butternut or other soft skin varieties and leave the seeds in. I think they give it a nutty sort of flavour and all that goodness you are getting.

I love the Pumpkin soup and make it in my lunch break- it only takes about 20minutes

Happy cooking (when ur TM comes!!)  :D :D

Chit Chat / Re: Converting to TMX
« on: August 18, 2010, 07:16:59 am »
I found that once I had been using my Thermo for a while and I knew the functions, converting was much easier.  I have put pencil marks all through my old faithful Woman’s Weekly Cookbook! I hardly use my electric beaters anymore because the Thermo is on the bench and always ready to go! Enjoy your converting Gin!  :D
