Tips and Tricks / Re: The Perfect Brush for Blades on the Thermomix

So maybe I'm ultra cheap (or just plain boring) but I got one that works well free at a Tupperware party last week, they have a perfect  one with a nice long handle in the games prize box.   8)

Thanks for that.  I think I'll try the chicken hors d'oeuveres from the basics book, I'm figuring I could make the mix the night before and just pop them in the oven at the party.  Does anyone who's made them know how many they make? I also want to try my hand at sausage rolls.  Trying to decide whether I'm game to have a have a go at the pastry or how long that will take to make, hmmmm

I haven't bought any of the other cookbooks yet, probably need to take the plunge but trying to let the wallet recover from the TMX, restocking the pantry and all the containers to store all the different nuts, seeds, legumes etc I've suddenly accumulated.   :)  It would be so nice to have everything. . . .

Starters and Snacks / Re: Beetroot, Parmesan and Cashew dip

Really! I've always been a bit scared of citric acid since I avoid citrus.  I find if I use fresh beetroot it's not too bad occasionally in small amounts, but I'm past the elimination diet stage and most of the dip will probably be eaten by other people so I'm thinking I'll try it out.  I haven't really noticed a problem with the natural MSGs.  Don't find I miss the lemonade :)

So I'm new to the TMX thing and hosting a tupperware party after wok next week.  Any hints / suggestions as to what to prepare gratefully accepted.  I think I'm going to try the betroot, parmesan & cashew dip and a herbed cream cheese but would like to also do some hot finger food & something sweet.  Thanks!

Do you think this would work without the lemon - I can't eat it  :-(

Ah Rusell, let me know if you have an good ideas I've been meant to be avoiding salicylates for years now, the trouble usually is the the 'healthy options' whenever you are out are fruit platters & fruity desserts and soooo many things hide the citrus fruits.  Does make the TMX very worthwhile though :) Fortunately amines are okay for me though.

Bread / Re: Swirly Bacon or Ham Rolls
« on: May 29, 2010, 03:06:25 am »
So I made these the other weekend for my niece's birthday and also a batch with pasil pesto, salami, pinenuts & cheese filling which were even more popular.  Actually I didn't have another spring form tin so I rolled out the dough, spread the mixture then folded it over about three times and cooked it in a cake tin so it was more like a loaf / pullapart.

For the filling I used
  • grated 90gms cheese (grated in the TMX)
  • 100gms hungarian salami (add to cheese and chop for 8-10 sec on speed 6)
  • 30 gms of pinenuts
  • 150gms of basil pesto (I had a jar left in my pantry but next time I'm going to try & make some)
then mixed it on reverse speed three for about 5 seconds to combine.

Yummy

Two pieces of advice from a new owner - get some ingredients & recipes ready for when it arrives, if you're like me you'll want to be cooking not shopping!  And let your housemates / family taste some of the amazing results BEFORE you start milling seeds & kneading bread in the middle of the night . . .

Thanks for all your welcoming messages.  I do have a wise siter indeed.  The mosquito actually come from me prac teaching days when one of the kids pointed out that my name 'Miss Kitto' sounded like mosquito.  Sorry I've been a little slack on the forum front, still loving my TMX though.  I have a Tupperware party after work next Friday night so about to go looking for some quick & easy after work ideas to thrill my friends with.   :) Jacqui

Introduce Yourself / Following my sister's advice
« on: May 15, 2010, 11:15:56 am »
We'll I'm finally here.  My thermomix arrived a week and a half ago after my mum bought one almost a year ago and my sister six months ago.  I am single so it took me a while to convince myself a thermomix was worth it when I only cook for one but am loving it.

My first night I made the stock, chicken & vegie soup & bread (as well as some jealous workmates the next day).

Since then I have made various things including the spinach and fetta scrolls, various soups & smoothies, banana bread, risotto, tuna morney . . . can't remember them all.

I have now made pretty much all the things that sold the machine to me and am looking to spice it up with some new ideas and am following my sisters advice that the most useful thermomix accessory is this forum.
