Recipe Requests / Steamed chicken and veg
« on: March 20, 2012, 06:17:49 pm »
Hi

I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions on how to jazz up steamed chicken and veg.   I cook it quite often but I'm getting a little bored because its so bland. I tried the EDC Chicken and Cashew recipe but wasn't impressed.

Thanks

Thanks for the tips guys.  Looks like I have some serious planning to do.

I'm currently staying in a small apartment and I've got everything in easy reach of my TM so this huge space seems a bit daunting and its only 3 weeks until we take possession and start the renovations.

Keep the suggestions coming.

We've just bought a house and need to renovate the kitchen.  Its very large (long but not so wide).

How do you incorporate your Thermie into your kitchen?

Any other kitchen design tips are welcome.

Can anyone suggest an alternative for anchovies?  I really detest the taste.  Or maybe the finished product doesn't taste too fishy.

Thanks,

Bread / Re: Multigrain/Seed Loaf Rolls - suggestions needed
« on: February 01, 2012, 12:19:42 pm »
Thanks guys. I don't have any tins so I will keep trying the rolls. Also I'm overseas so can't get any of the bread mixes so have to make it from scratch.

I just made another batch and they turned out much better.  I left them to rise for over an hour this time.

What should the cooking time be?  EDC says 45 mins for the loaf but I find 25-30mins is enough for the rolls.

Cheers,

Ros

Bread / Multigrain/Seed Loaf Rolls - suggestions needed
« on: February 01, 2012, 06:51:18 am »
I'm a TM newbie and have tried the 5 seed loaf recipe from EDC a couple of times.  I don't have any bread tins so I've tried forming the dough into rather sticky rolls but haven't had much success.  The rolls tend to come out pretty flat.

Can you give me any tips on how to modify the recipe to suit rolls or alternative recipes to try that will give me a nice fluffy seed or multigrain roll?

Thanks,
Ros

Just wondering if these Dulse flakes would be found in Asian grocery stores.  What would they call it? Is it like the flakes they sprinkle on tofu in Japanese restaurants that seem to wave around like its alive?  I don't have any decent health food shops nearby in Joburg but have plenty of chinese grocers.

Thanks for the tips ladies.  I'm here for 2--3 years but will ship whatever I have back to Australia so nothing will be wasted.

I've just moved overseas and need to set up with kitchen with the basics all over again.  I've just got my  *: so I want to  know what other items of kitchen equipment do you still use with the *: and what stuff do you never use anymore.  So far I've got some scrapers, chopping board, a sharp knife and a baking dish (use it for rolls, biscuits etc too).

Thanks for your help.

Introduce Yourself / Hello from Joburg
« on: January 28, 2012, 05:06:10 am »
Hi,

I'm an Aussie who has just moved to Joburg.  I got my thermomix over here and saved over 20% compared to the price in Aus.  I've been using my Mum's for the last few months in Aus so am already addicted.

I've only had it 3 days but have already made:
- ANZACs x2
- Stir fry Veg
- Pasta
- Peanut Chicken (from the forum - very, very YUM)
- Chocolate custard
- Porridge x3
- Steam Veg and Ostrich sausages(very lean) in the Varoma
- Bacon and Mushroom cabonara
- Kids Easy Mac
- 5 seed bread
- Playdough (its an absolute hit with my 2yo)

Cheers,

Ros
