Chit Chat / Re: Look what Target has ....

I had to say I lterally fell about laughing when I saw the photo of the kitchen plug on that thread. I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe and had to use my puffer  >:( but it was very funny. Reminded me of the time that my MIL cooked a casserole with the bar of yeloow dish soap in the pot. She accidently picked it up with the vegies that she had cut into the sink. The casserole was totally inedible. It's funny now, but at the time she had six kids and a farmer hubby and they were really broke, so it was a very bad mistake to make.

Tried to get a look at these new wonder machines today; apparently every store in WA is sold out. It will be interesting to see whether the next batch have the faults fixed. I would buy my Mum one as a pressie if she wanted one...she could take it in the caravan and not worry about it.

Here's what I whipped up for dinner last night

it was delicious. ...almond and parsley encrusted chicken with lightly steamed asparagus, broccoli, carrots and zucchini, deluged in a tomato and mint sauce. Followed up by a small serving of almond cream. (For any diet controlled diabetics who are interested, my blood sugar reading was 6.1 an hour later...and no way did I feel deprived!)

Put two handfuls or thereabouts of almonds in the TC/TM and turbo pulse. add a good washed (and spun in a salad spinner) handful of parsely, salt and pepper and pulse until mexture looks like coarse breadcrumbs. Put crumb mixture in flat bowl.  Rinse the jug and put enough water in so you can sit the steamerbasket on top with no water in  the bottom of the basket, but don't put the steamer basket in yet.

Cut the chicken breast vertically to make three even strips. Coat in beaten egg and press the almond mixture onto the outside of the chicken. Set in Varoma top tray and put on for 12 minutes varoma setting, Set going. Chop vegetables (zucchini, broccoli, carrot into nice pieces, not too big. (see Picture) Mix a can of diced tomatoes with a generous teaspoon of dried mint and put it all in a glass (heatproof) in the steamer basket. Cover the glass with a little bit of foil. (I use a glass candle holder from Ikea...they are heatproof and thick!) Add carrots around the edge of the steamer basket not in the sauce. When TC/TM stops purring, , remove from jug and place on bench.

Put steamer basket into jug. Put varoma on Jug. Arrange zucchini in bottom layer with broccoli on top. Put top tray with chicken back in Varoma. Lay asparagus on the top. Steam on varoma setting for another 10 minutes.  Heat plates in microwave.

BE CAREFUL OF THE STEAM _ ALWAYS OPEN THE TOP LAYER AWAY FROM YOUR FACE! Check that chicken is done, avoiding the ravenous crowds that have gathered in light of the impending meal.  Carefully Lift the glass full of sauce out of the steamer basket, it will be extremely hot. Remove foil and stir it.  Serve, arranging attractively and pouring the stirred tomato mixture onto the vegetables. Enjoy with good company.

Hopefully the pic is in here...if not I'll try to add it later.

Thanks so much from both of you for the welcome...I feel like part of the community already! RosieB...notice that your TC is male? It is so interesting how we relate to these things! And Deedub...have last nights dinner to post up when I figure out how to add the photo...it was yummy too! (It was sooo good I deliberately took a photo before we started eating...much to the anguish of the hungry males in the household!)

Parmesan Sunflower seed crackers .....these are to die for and being wheat free/flour free are a protein snack...so if you are on the low carb or Hay Lifestyle..they are fabulous. (I have altered the original recipe that I found in the Kindle Book : 1001 Low Carb recipes By Dana Carpenter which is very good too BTW).

Makes about two baking sheets full

1 cup (225g) sunflower seeds
125grams Parmesan cheese (use fresh not the grated stuff you get in packets)
60ml of water (add more if needed)

Put oven onto 170C.
Chop the parmesan into small bits and put with seeds into thermie.
Pulse using turbo until seeds resemble fine flour/wheat germ. Add water and make a dough. You may need to adjust water quantity.

This bit is really important. Dough will be sticky. Put half the dough between two sheets of baking paper and roll out thinly...when I say thinly I mean thinly! Score the pastry with a knife to make it easier to break when dry, and repeat with other half.
Bake for about 30 minutes.

You may have to watch it as my oven isn't the most reliable instrument ever made either! You want them evenly pale brown and crisp. Make sure you hide some for yourself because these will just walk out the door. Plus they are a guilt free snack with cheese. Enjoy!

Tips/hints from members

Jeninwa - These are so quick and easy to make and roll by hand. The recipe made quite a few, and they are so yummy. I turned the oven down to 165oC as they were cooking too quickly. I would only leave them for 10 minutes (if that) before checking.

Introduce Yourself / G'day from WA!
« on: February 22, 2012, 01:34:41 am »
Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your help and advice that I have been reading for a while now. I appreciate so much that you have put your time and effort into making this forum a nice place to be. I am the proud owner of a Thermochef which i just love and which I have had for about 6 months now. It has changed the way I think about food and my relationship with cooking. I wasn't certain that I would use it, which is part of the reason that I opted for the TC not the TM. I've named her MEG (multipurpose Entertainment Gadget). Meg and I get on famously!

Some of you may have read my posts on other forums, as I have been around for a while, and whilst I appreciate the discussions that go on about the different models for me it's all about enjoying the journey- learning to cook new things from each other and having a healthier lifestyle. I spent last year at Uni full time and have just graduated which now gives me time to play a lot with MEG!

I am looking forward to putting up the wonderful recipes I am making in Meg for you all to try. They have had rave reviews from my husband and my very health conscious son so I must be doing something right! I am located in Parmelia in Perth.

Looking forward to being an active member of this forum!  :) :) :) :)
