I was in Vienna last October and fell totally in love with the city.
Didn't have much chance to try many cakes (short budget), I did try Sacher Torte but didn't like it at all! I didn't notice the apricot jam, though Enjoy yourself, it's really beautiful worth every second you spend there! 6

Chit Chat / Re: Quince paste help needed please« on: April 13, 2011, 08:00:45 pm »
This is what we portuguese call "marmelada"
Very traditional here. If you want it to have a deeper red colour, just leave the quinces for a while after peeling, they become oxid with get and start to darken, then it will be darker. Also the fact that you pre-cook the quince before adding the sugar might make a difference, my mother always cooked it already with the sugar. 9
Starters and Snacks / Re: Basic Crackers« on: February 20, 2011, 10:36:48 pm »Yep that's the yeast you use in bread making (not sure what cake yeast is??) and yes no oil or butter. What I refered as "cake yeast" is whatever powdered thing you add to cakes to make them grow The portuguese word is the same for both kinds, except the one for bread is called "baker's yeast" Thanks for the help! 10

I loved this recipe but need a little help:
- dried yeast - is the one we use to make bread? Or the one for cakes? - no fat at all in this recipe - is that correct? Store bought crackers have such an insanely amount of fat that I am totally amazed! 12
Chit Chat / Re: Anyone famous here« on: February 05, 2011, 01:07:44 pm »answering a couple of questions: I had no idea the forum was also set in Portugal. Do you also participate on the Portuguese forum? Should I know you from there? 13
Bread / Re: What's the Kneading Capacity??« on: January 28, 2011, 10:57:21 am »
Just yesterday some one at the Portuguese forum said the capacity of the Thermomix was 600g of flour. Maybe you should check with your consultant.

Bread / Re: Fresh yeast vs Dry yeast« on: January 28, 2011, 10:55:04 am »
Here in Portugal the big supermarkets sell fresh yeast in small packs (2 cubes of 25g each). I only use half for a loaf with 500g of flour, so I freeze the other half.
I have the dry one too just in case, but I prefer the fresh one. 15
Chit Chat / Re: Kindle has arrived!!!!!!, now what to do with it!!« on: January 28, 2011, 09:47:30 am »..I've got Stieg Larsson's Girl with the Golden Tattoo (I think that's the name, anyway the first of the Millennium Trilogy) waiting for me next. CP63, your Delicious Love Story sounds good - perhaps that will get downloaded in the next day or two. Take care, the Millennium trilogy is totally addictive. I read all 3 volumes on my vacation, on the summer of 2009. I read them in Portuguese (although I found out later they were note translated directly from the Swedish, but from the English translation ) They were huge, so Kindle version must be much more practical. I am reading (rereading actually) Anne of Green Gables. And I've got the whole collection of Lucy M Montgomery to go through, thanks to one of those free books sites
