Thanks for the info.  Have managed to salvage the outer four inches of the cake as a "cake"!   Next time will try the alternative recipe ... Darn, just paid $35 for my brand new 9" cake pan too!  Am guessing these larger cakes need more time in the oven.

Add a glass of water in middle of cake pan to make it into a ring pan. Works everytime.

Cunning trick, Virginia! This means I can use the 9" pan with confidence for my next largish cake adventure! 8)

Yes, it would be good to have a comparison recipe (excuse my ignorance, but what does the abbreviation PM mean?) cheers, Kathy

Just had a crack at making the Carrot Cake in the EDC.  I made a teeny weeny mistake right at start and left grated carrot in bowl rather than setting it aside then continued with recipe step for step as per EDC.  Mix seemed to be very wet.  Used 9" round high quality cake pan.  Cooked for 45-50 mins as per recipe at 175 degrees C. Even gave it 5 extra minutes to be sure.  Took it out thinking it should have cooked by then.  Unfortunately my cake was still raw in the middle.   >:(  As I am not an experienced cake baker - was my major mistake made when I left the carrot in the bowl right at the start? or did it really need much more time in the oven?  Hoping someone can point me in right direction!  cheers, Kathy

Made these this Labour Day arvo.  Got phone call during butter & sugar mixing stage ... therefore egg only went in with flour & bicarb...  oooops .. they seem to have come out OK though :)  Have lots of sympathy for MasterChef contestants, if you can leave out an ingredient during the method stage WITH a recipe, then I can see how easy is it to leave out when you are winging it from memory!!!?

Yup, had 10mm of foam, so yeast is fine. Might try the hot car option next time, but set an alarm on my mobile phone to remind me where my dough has gone!!!!!  :D :D

Thanks, will test my yeast using glass water/sugar method tonight, being newbie I am following the recommended EDC instructions to a tee at present until I get feel for timings/etc. In future will check this forum for any tweaks to the EDC recipes. Kathy.

Kathy - sounds like you are having just as much fun with your machine as I am. My family are certainly enjoying everything I'm making. Yes, I've started thinking about a chest freezer as well  ;D Haven't quite worked out how to change the cooking times when halving recipes as it's just 3 of us - DH, DD4 and me. Lots more experimenting...
I recently asked question re: halving recipes, apparently temps same but time is reduced to 80% of original is rule of thumb. Thankfully  Woolworths have sale on clip top containers at present so stocking up on these and labeling the leftovers in freezer with masking tape strips so I can remember whats what!  So far simply love the scales function so useful and reduces dishes too!

Being just a newbie, have tried both basic bread recipe (EDC) and tonight pizza dough recipe (EDC) both using dried yeast sachet (tandaco brand from supermarket) and neither rose, but went ahead anyhows bread no too good, pizza was thin & crispy!  Live in Brisbane, still not super warm here, so maybe it was lack of warmth to prove .. ?

Hi Sofia
Yay! My Arnie arrive this arvo!
Made Cacciatore Chicken Rissotto (recipe found on this forum) - absolutely delicious!!!!  But recipe was enough to feed a whole army ... and there is only DH and I in our household!   Heaven forbid, I may need to buy a chest freezer!  Followed it up with a Raspberry, Banana and Orange sorbet ... again so much food!  Have put remaining half of sorbet in freezer, but methinks it will freeze rock solid, worth a try anyhows.
I will definitely need to halve most recipes otherwise we will end up on Biggest Loser before too long!  Will make the veg stock concentrate tomorrow morning and take it from there, very happy so far.
Kathy

Am spending the wait gainfully by clearing out my small pantry, got new containers today, plus need to go through my fridge and remove all circa WWII food items .. Tee hee!

Hello Sofia , Snap! I just ordered my Thermomix same day as you, being delivered next Friday.  Prior to my purchase I had been researching this forum and was very impressed with the wealth of information here and the range of recipes.
We should swap our first impressions once our new TM's arrive!  :D Cheers Kathy (aka fujicat707)

Good luck with your basic cooking class fujicat707 in Carina, is your DH going with you? Many men are very impressed with what the TM can make,he would also love how quick the TM is to clean. ;)
Thanks Cornish Cream, DH is the kitchen cleaner , I am the cook ... Think he would rather pull his teeth out than go to a cooking class! But i am sure he will use it if I go ahead with a purchase in the near future.  I am also flying down to visit my brother in Melb next week.  They have a TM so will get to have a play!
