Chit Chat / Re: Roasting pans
« on: August 02, 2012, 09:17:21 pm »
I have also had my Scanpan roasting pan for years. It still looks like new & I use it for roasts and baking slices etc. It is so easy to clean and nothing ever sticks. It is well worth what it cost me. At the time I made my purchase online as it was better value than the Myer half price sale. My Mum has two of these the bigger and smaller one and she is also thrilled to bits with them.

Breakfast / Re: Faffa's best yoghurt recipe

I ran out of full cream milk so used Paul's Smarter White one time & was thrilled with the mild taste so have been using the low fat milk ever since. I drain my yogurt in a sieve lined with new chux cloth until 300 - 400 whey drains out. Love the thought of having a yoghurt drainer so have ordered one from Everton - this will make the process so much easier. When I decant my Greek yoghurt I blend it with a hand mixer to make smooth & it's delicious.

My consultant has left this book with me & I am just having a browse now. The recipes are very easy and there looks to be some great recipes in it  In fact I am not vegetarian but seriously considering buying this book. My consultant recommended the Fresh Herb and Cashew Dip - she said its to die for. Hope this helps.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Booked a demonstration!

You must be getting excited Lynn - not long until your demo now. The Full Steam Ahead cook book really didn't appeal to me at all. I just bought For Foods Sake & it's a gorgeous book. In the TM books I have the Indian and the Meat books - both of these have some great recipes, although lacking in pictures I have used these a lot. I have used the forum for recipes many times and won't even cook a recipe out of the books until I check out the reviews first :). I don't know if you have the rubbery mat in the UK but that is something I use constantly in my bread making to wrap the dough in to prove & roll out pastry etc. (I bought an Ikea mat for $10 rather than buying the Thermomix one though). Glad you are better now. Have a great weekend!

As quite a new member and TM owner - this is a very warm place to visit. I feel I have gained so much more than an amazing appliance. Although I have rarely posted on here - I can't express how much I appreciate all of your input, suggestions and humor. You all make everyone so welcome - its lovely to have discovered such wonderful people who share a common obsession with their Thermomix. Thank you all.

Hi Lyn, welcome to the forum. I am new here myself and can guarantee you won't regret your Thermomix purchase as it opens up a whole new world of interests. This forum has been such a pleasure providing endless enjoyment and inspiration. I am originally from UK but have lived most of my life in Australia. We lovingly use the term dag when friends and family do or say something off centre or a bit silly. (like the time I wore my training pants inside out to training last week as I got dressed in the dark, all the writing was on the outside- my training buddies said I was such a dag).

Chit Chat / Re: 'Sweet Poison' (sugar) book... and TMX recipes...??

A sugar free breakfast topping I use everyday is:-
1 handful almonds
1 handful coconut (desiccated or shredded)
1 small green apple

Add all ingredients to TMX and turbo pulse 4 - 6 times until desired consistency.
Store in container in fridge - it will last for ages & the apple doesn't go brown. I put this on my cooked porridge with yoghurt or over oats & milk (sometimes just on my homemade yoghurt as a snack). It adds a lovely sweetness. I often use a bigger apple & double other ingredients as I use it every day. You could also experiment & add other things.

Thank you all for being so welcoming. Since my TMX joined my family such a short time ago I have gained so much more from all you lovely people willing to share your experiences and lend support to newbies like me - its wonderful. @ Bubbles - I don't know if I should be admitting it either but I too dream about my TMX!!! I've got it bad :) I can't believe how often I use it and my first and foremost thought each day is what will I make next. I really don't know how I coped before. Being new to forums too, I just discovered that I can review replies to my posts - yay!! I've been so happy since getting my TMX - I can't help gushing to anyone who will listen. Thanks again everyone xox

Hi teagg, I am an avid follower of a fructose free diet. Even a small amount IMO is harmful - the evidence is all there. I eat a wide and varied diet rich in fats, carbohydrates and proteins. I have eliminated all forms of sugar with the exception of dextrose and I don't use artificial sweeteners. This includes table sugar, honey, maple syrup, molasses, all dried fruits - processed foods containing sugar - you get the picture. I have never felt better! The exclusion of fructose has enabled my body's mechanisms to work properly which means it knows when I am full and I no longer crave sweets and chocolate. My passion has always been to make cakes and slices so now I use dextrose as an alternative that works for me. This morning I converted a David Gillespie pikelet recipe to the TMX with fantastic results! I should start posting some recipes I have converted. From a body perspective - I initially lost weight (almost 3kg I am a healthy size 8) and maintained that initial loss regardless of what I eat. I have noticed that I have really trimmed down in the thighs and bottom which are areas I have always struggled with in the past but not in shoulders & chest where I can't afford to lose weight from. Girlfriends have had similar results too. I hope this has been helpful teagg. One thing to note - its important not to consume dextrose until you have conquered your sugar addiction, I went cold turkey but others I know did it gradually. Good luck!

Introduce Yourself / Very excited newbie!
« on: June 02, 2012, 02:16:54 pm »
Hello,

I am a very excited newbie, new to Thermomix and new to forums too. I've had my Thermomix for 2 weeks and have been cooking up a storm. I find myself rushing home from work to spend time with my Thermomix, much to the amusement of my husband and kids :)
This is a very welcoming and friendly place to visit - thanks so much to those of you who have set up all the links and reviews of the recipes in the cook books - this is invaluable and has helped me so much. After only 2 weeks I just can't imagine cooking what seems to me now the 'old fashioned way'. I am eagerly awaiting the curry book and the meat book I ordered.
Thanks for having me onboard, I'm looking forward to this exciting adventure.

Shirley
