Yeah I'm afraid I'm a recipe-book-aholic too!!Thanks for all your replies!! I'm definitely using this forum heaps already - but I LOVE flicking through a beautiful cooking book with lovely photos, being inspired.... Looks like For Food's Sake is sold out everywhere though So might just have to stick with the forum for now...

I really enjoyed this, thanks!! After leaving it in the pan for 5 minutes and taking it out it was sooo crumbly I was sure I'd failed. But it hardened up nicely as it cooled down, and it's delicious the day after. Really nice recipe, will be making it again. And I already got a recipe request after serving it at a playdate this morning

I saw great reviews for For Food's Sake recently, but I was wondering what you guys think would be a good first cook book to buy?? I'm into healthy eating so not too keen on heaps of butter & sugar heavy recipes. Also, where do you buy these cook books from?? I'm in New Zealand so wondering if I might have a hard time getting my hands on them...

Still loving my Thermomix, but my freezer is so full of food now I've had to take a bit of a break Still doing smoothies most days though, and baking when we need it. Made Quirky Cooking's fried rice last night, which was lovely. Tonight it's mashed potatoes. And thinking of making a peppermint slice now while my baby boy is sleeping... I've had a couple of problems so far - I couldn't get my hummus smooth enough. Used a standard can of chickpeas and I wizzed and wizzed, but it would all just spread to the sides of the bowl in a matter of seconds, where the blades couldn't get to it. Tried adding more oil, but the amount was getting ridiculous... Any tips?? Also, when the TMX consultant made the lemon custard during the demo, it was smooth and beautiful. When I make it it's tasty - but has little lumps of lemon peel (even though I wizz it longer than it says in the recipe book)... Again, any tips? My husband is finally home from overseas so looking forward to making more main meals in the TMX. He's also come home talking about transferring to the Australian army (he's a captain in the NZ army)...!!! I'm keen on the idea, I loved Australia when I lived over there. But must say I'm terrified of the spiders. TERRIFIED!!

Hi Clare! Welcome!! I'm in New Zealand too, whereabouts are you?? That is a really awesome way to get "back into it", challenging yourself with new recipes every day, well done! It's what I wanted to do for the first few weeks - I've only had my TMX for a week, and I've definitely used it heaps, but I find myself shying away from the more complicated recipes (well, I don't know whether they actually are complicated or not - but stuff like puff pastry etc.) just because I've been so busy with kids. I'm daydreaming about my husband taking the kids away to his parents for a weekend, and me just being able to cook to my heart's content for a whole weekend. But then again, what's the fun in cooking if you've got nobody to share it with? Thanks for all the links anyway, I'll definitely try some of the recipes you posted!!

Yum!!! Just made these, used a bit less sugar and chocolate chips, will try cutting back on the oil and adding an egg next time - because there will DEFINITELY be a next time! Delicious!!! Thanks!!

Hi astarra!! How long have you been living in Tasmania? Do you like it better than NZ? I've never been to Tasmania, traveled for a year in Australia (met my Kiwi husband in Melbourne), but didn't make it down there. I think most Danes would love to go though - because of Princess Mary

SO Mama Fergie, which method did you go with for your mashed potatoes in the end? Think I'll have to try it tomorrow. My only problem at the moment is I can't eat all the food I want to cook - I need my husband to hurry on home. He's still gone for another 10 days, sigh. Made creamy prawn and garlic risotto for dinner last night, but the kids didn't like it (I thought it was very nice!) and there's waaay more than I can possibly eat myself. Hate wasting food.
What did you end up cooking on your home alone day?? That is so what I want, a home alone day with my Thermomix, haha. My 4 year old goes to preschool, but I've got two boys at home every single day, so cooking is always a balancing act. I made some lemon muffins/cupcakes yesterday too (found them on this forum), and we've been having lots of green smoothies too. Oh, and I made the carrot and coriander soup from the Everyday cook book, delicious!
Do you have family in NZ? That's a long flight from Perth!! Honestly I'd rather be living in Australia - I'm from Denmark and spent a year traveling around OZ when I finished school, then bumped in to a charming guy in Melbourne, but he was a Kiwi just over there for a few months. Next thing I know I'm married and living in New Zealand!! :p I LOVED Australia - but not the spiders so much!! :-/

How did your mashed potatoes turn out Mama Fergie? Yep I used the rice pudding recipe from the Everyday cook book, but I only added one egg instead of 2 (don't think it made a difference, and heck, after spending NZ$2410 on a kitchen machine I'm going to have to be thrifty, one egg worked fine ). I must try the playdough recipe too, my kids would be thrilled, the playdough we've got in the cupboard is getting old...

Hi Mama Fergie, for my first day of cooking yesterday I made lemon custard with the consultant, then once she'd left and I'd collected enough courage to try something myself I made tomato soup and bread rolls. Then spaghetti carbonara for dinner and pear & banana sorbet for dessert, as well as a hot chocolate for myself once the kids were in bed Today I made porridge for the kids for breakfast, carrot & orange juice (SO impressed with how well the TMX juices, I was sceptical and thought it would be more smoothy like - but it's JUICE!), then apricot muffins as it's my baby boy's 1st birthday today, and rice pudding for the big kids for dessert. Thinking of throwing together another batch of bread rolls. I - AM - IN - LOVE!!! I thought it would be cool, but it's sooooo much better than I ever could have imagined!! How was your 2nd day Mama Fergie?

I absolutely agree Caroline, didn't have a whole lot of flavour. Garlic, more peppercorns, possibly some paprika or cumin. I also wasn't a huge fan of the texture with the group lentils, next time I'd cook them along with everything else and blend it at the end, think that would make it a bit smoother...

I faced my fear Greyhoundmum, and started cooking. Tomato soup, bread rolls, spaghetti carbonara, and pear and banana sorbet... I think we'll become good friends pretty quickly. My only problem - I'm SO full!!!!
