Food ideas for a first birthday party?
« on: June 25, 2012, 02:59:01 pm »
I'm trying to think of idea (well recipes rather) for a first birthday party. It's only going to be small 15-20 and I'm after savoury things rather than sweet.

I'm thinking sausage rolls, sliders, mini pizzas, etc.

Uni - I remember you made sliders out of the no fuss rolls at one point. Can you tell me how you made them, what you put in them?

Any other suggestions for savoury - the simpler, the better.

My caramelised onion & mushroom tarts are nice for finger food parties.

Will check those out properly later....thanks. Keep 'em comin'.

I have also borrowed a few books from the library today.

I forgot to mention it will mainly be adults so don't necessarily need kid-type food but I like the finger food idea.

Best sausage rolls mix your sausage mince with ordinary no frills fruit chutney, about half a jar for 500g mince if I remember ratio correctly.  That's it, plus the puff pastry.  You can make them quite mini always a party hit.  Don't forget something for vegetable lovers, maybe spinach & ricotta mini rolls too.  Actually anything with puff pastry is good.  I often make little squares and push into mini muffin pan and cover with savoury stuff like caramelised onion, semi dried tomato, a nice sweet chilli jam, sliced mushrooms, whatever - or for sweet make a mix of brown sugar, butter, chopped pecans and sprinke on the little rough pies.  1st birthday - so special!  Enjoy the kids and buy in pizzas (can I say that on this forum?)
