Temp light came on when kneading dough?
«

Im sure I read this happening to someone else but can't find the thread?
Yesterday while my bread dough was approx 2.5 mins into its 4 min kneading cycle, the 37oC light came on?
Wasn't sure what to do so let it finish the 4 mins, noticed when I removed the TM bowl, it was warmer than normal...this is probably approx the 10th time Ive made bread, first time light has come on though
I definitely hadn't pushed the temp button at all
I also noticed (for the first time) after cooking my porridge, washing out the TM bowl, finished in a hot rinse, dried and put bowl back in base, the 370C light came on. The TM hadn't been interrupted and had finished its cooking cycle.
I took bowl back out, turned TM off (not at wall) replaced bowl, turned it back on and again the temp light came on.....the bowl was still warm but is this normal for it to read the temp even after the machine has been turned off?

This hasn't happened to me - I'd be quickly putting in a call to your consultant or to HO . . .

GP, the temperature light does show on mine sometimes when kneading and the kneading action does make the bowl warm at the end of it which is a good thing to help start the dough to rise the first time.
I have also removed the bowl contents, done a self rinse with hot water, dried it and yes it does retain it's heat for a while so nothing that screams out trouble to me just yet with your machine.
Do a few more things and see if it misbehaves but if you have a friendly consultant, just give her a ring and discuss it with her.
Here's
an early thread with 2 examples of real trouble.

GP I have had the same experience as Judy. My temp light often comes on when kneading dough but never goes above 37. I believe it is just he heat generated by the kneading action and it helps with the first rise.
I have also found that the bowl will sometimes register 37 when I place it back after washing in hot water.. I think it is just reading the retained heat and is nothing to worry about.

Phew, thanks lovelies.....I did send a message to my lovely consultant, just thought I would ask you gorgeous people while I wait for her to reply back
This is approx the 10th loaf Ive made and its never come on before, plus the bowl has only been slightly warm when removing from base....I've done this actual recipe 4 times now so nothing unusual there.
Judy, you beat me to it....I was going to ask if someone would kindly put some hot water in their TM bowl and sit it back on the base
just with machine turned on.....I also did that and this time It registered 50, I would expect it to be higher of course...but for some reason I have never noticed this before and guess I assumed it wouldn't register anything just being turned on and not programmed.
Thanks also Den....was worried it was just mine, and was more concerned that the kneading process had somehow actually activated the temp button cos the bowl just felt too warm upon removal???
I've gone all paranoid now haha
I will watch it though, have also tried unplugging from wall....feel better now though.
Goldfish, would you mind testing yours by either or both....rinsing bowl in hot water, quickly dry then place on base just with TM turned on, then also just put some hot water in bowl and sit in base.....theoretically yours should register something too, just to put my paranoia to rest
PS...iPad spell check is the biggest pain, I should turn it OFF Grr!

Okey doke - well, rinsing with the hottest I could get from the tap - actually registered 50, I removed the jug, gave it another quick wipe and then we were down to 37. When I placed boiling water straight from the kettle it went to 70. I just can't remember it coming on when kneading (and I also do the 4 minute knead) I'll pay more attention with the next bread and see what happens.
I also can't remember actually placing a warm bowl back onto the base - usually washed and all the bits and pieces left to air dry first . . . .
What Judy and DD have to say of course makes sense but I'd still be interested to know what the official word (consultant/HO) is

I've had it get warm from mixing/kneading before too. And the first day I got my machine I accidentally melted butter in it by simply mixing too fast!!
LOL

GP its just the friction heating everything up. I did a raw foods class once when they said that when using high speed blenders to make juices you had to be careful not to let them heat up too much as then they wouldn't be raw any longer. My lights often come on when I've rinsed with hot water, or added hot water to the bowl. Relax, don't worry.

Thanks for testing goldfish.....just pondering and realized another reason I haven't noticed the temp registering, I often have my TM bowl rinsed and soaking with detergent while we eat dinner, then finish it off, of course by then my TM has already turned itself off or I have after use.....this morning I wanted to make a marinade and did so straight after making my porridge, so TM was still turned on....think Ive solved my own query after all...well the bread making did make my wee heart flutter for a bit.....
I must say though, this is my first concern about something and how awesome are you people!!!!!
So quick to come to my rescue, just love this forum, thank you, thank you

That's what friends are for GP - we hate to see anyone out there stranded on a limb if we can make suggestions to relieve anxiety.

I've had similar things happen GP it's all quite normal.
When I do a 4 minute knead I usually do mine as 2 x2 minute kneads as I like to have a good look at the dough in the bowl between them.

Mine has occasionally heated when kneading. 37o seems OK to me for bread, especially as I mostly raise on the bowl.

Thanks again, I do feel so much better after your replies everyone....I also let my dough prove in the TM bowl, must say it was quicker this time around
Im still working on perfecting my loaf, practice makes perfect (I hope), still playing around with white, wholemeal and dark rye quantities, but the inside softness is perfect with a crispy crust....this is more for an everyday loaf, then the 5 seed is more for a treat.
I don't eat bread everyday, but DH likes a sandwich for work most days
Oh and thanks to the shopping thread (or not, as I am finding things I didn't know I needed LOL) my thermapen is a great help, along with all the bread making tips from the pros on this forum....I would be lost and floundering without you awesome people...I don't have much to contribute (yet) but I do spend a good amount of time reading and hopefully learning from you all, never enough hours in the day though

We love reading your posts GP and reading how things are going. I've had my thermomix for 4 years and still have the occasional oops. But then I would even if I didn't have the tmx.
