Help, I've burnt my TM bowl
« on: March 02, 2013, 03:20:59 am »
I've obviously burnt the bottom of my TM bowl at some point because now every time I use it food sticks to the bottom. This morning I've made biscuits and the flour again has stuck to it! Does anyone have any tips on what I could or should do? Or do I need to invest in another bowl?

Does the bowl still look burn Lindsay - how did you clean the burn marks off initially?

If all that didn't work Lindsay, you might try this.

I have two bowls - both with "burn marks" - one bowl in particular with very stubborn marks.  Even my beloved bicarb treatment couldn't raise a smile.  Today, two things happened.

1.  I decided to make some more of achookwoman's Gentleman's Relish and went ahead and made this in the first bowl.

2.  I had a tray of capsicums bought on special at the local shop and saw this recipe . .   Capsicum Jam . .twistiebrinkley's recipe by Cookie1.  I decided to make it as I really like these kinds of condiments, but a post from Denzelmum said "Soo yummy, will make lots for Chrissy presents.  Notice that after making this, the bowl is extra clean."  I decided to go ahead a make this in the second bowl regardless of the burn marks and also with the hope that I might have the same result as Denzelmum.

Result:  I made the Gentleman's Relish first - bowl washed - as clean as a whistle.   When I had finished the Capsicum Jam I rinsed out the bowl but the marks were still there (and these were marks you could even feel!)  I very gently scraped at one and low and behold it began to move.  Applied the bicarb and after some gentle rubbing with a wet paper towel the bowl is now bright and shiny.

I'm guessing it's the prolonged heat (30 minutes on either 100C or varoma) and the vinegar component that got to work.  I have no idea if this is correct . . but if it works I don't need a scientific explanation!! ;D ;D

Lindsay you should be able to find gumption in PNG, when I lived there my house boy used gumption all the time, I had never heard of it till then.
I make a paste of vinegar and bicarbonate, worked for me, my bowl use to catch all the time when it was new.
I child-proofed my house, but they still get in!
