Many many years ago now, we were lucky to have 4-5 neighbours who could call on each other for whatever they needed, were out of, etc.- and whenever they needed it - as long as a light was on. One day, several of us landed up on one particular neighbour's doorstep "returning" the ingredients we had borrowed at one time or another - flour, eggs, butter and milk - we decided we could have made pancakes right there and then!
Those days are gone sadly. Where we live now we do have a friendly neighbour or two - but nothing like it was back then - but I think I'd probably pop up to the shop down the road . . .
GF before we built this house we had similar neighbours. In fact the decision to shift was very hard as we had beautiful neighbours. We were welcome anytime of night or day( as long as that light was on) one set are DD's godparents, we had Christmas and New Year at each others place and at 11 am every Sunday we collected together for morning tea. At around 12 the party would break up. The guys all had keys to each others sheds etc. it was just so lovely. We have lovely neighbours near us now, but everyone is so busy with their life.
