Welcome catdog0612.
I recommend
Bafs Award Winning Creamy Chicken and Veggies in the Varoma.
Also have a read through the section on
Varoma Cooking.
there are some great recipe there.

Hi & thankyou very much for the suggestion. I will give it a go. I saw there is a e-book to download through this site just about the Veroma so perhaps I should look at that also. But again thankyou

I use my Veroma all the time to steam my veggies. I place about 600g of water in the bowl then place the basket in where I put the potatoes, then the lid on without the MC and the Veroma on top which I fill the bottom with harder veggies like carrots, pumpkin, corn on a cob etc, the top basket with things like frozen veggies, silver beet etc. lid on, 35 minutes, Veroma speed 1.
I haven't used pots to cook my veggies in 3.5 years

Look at it as just a steamer to start with. Move on from there. I read recently that if you don't use your Varoma then you are only using 2/3 of the machine.

Same here Mandi, this is the only way I steam my vegies now and have been doing so for at least 5 years out of the 6 I've had my machine. I use more water and speed 3 or 4 though, I love to see the steam doing it's magic.
catdog, did you you have a delivery demo with your machine? I would definitely ask for a varoma demo or at least ask your consultant to pop over and give you a few hints if you are unsure. Our all-in-one recipes are easily followed though so perhaps you only need to try some of them and you will get the hang of it. There is an all in one meal in the book that came with your Thermomix, page 118 of the EDC - Salmon (or chicken) veloute meal. This was the meal which was demonstrated to show what the varoma could do.
Also, if you are cooking a batch of rice as per the EDC method you could pop the varoma dish on and steam yourself some diced vegies to mix through the rice or larger chunks to serve separately. It's easy to check as you go along to see if the vegies are cooked before the timer goes off for the rice - just pop them into the thermoserver or add the vegies later once you have worked out how long they took.

Thankyou everyone for your suggestions. I think once I give it a go I will be ok. Its just the first time thing I guess. I did have a demo when I bought my TMX but it didnt cover the Varoma. I will get in contct with my consultant & see if I can tag along to one of her other demos covering that.

As long as you put water in your bowl there is nothing that can go wrong. Give it a go. There are some pages in the general instruction book about using the Varoma. Nothing to be afraid of.

When you put the water in, do you put cold water or hot water in ?

chrissa, recipe times are for cold water unless otherwise stated. I usually use boiling water though as it's quicker.

I use boiling water for pasta and rice. Usually cold water for veggies.

I just use hot tap water for my steaming.
catdog: do try some of Peta's varoma recipes (the free downloadable book you mentioned), it is one of those things where the more you try using it, the more you will find to use it. (speaking from my own experience, anyway)
Let us know how you go.
Good luck.

Also - if you have the 'Devil of a Cookbook' try the Healthy 'Roast' Chicken - it is a wonderful delicious example of what the varoma can do....
