Risotto help- I accidently used Long grain rice
« on: November 17, 2011, 08:03:37 am »
Hi there
Can't believe I just did this, was in the process of making my first ever risotto in my wonder machine and was going great, until I went to put the rice back in the cupboard and realised I used long grain  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
I am letting it cook on its merry way but have no idea what to expect, does anyone know?? Fingers crossed it still tastes nice, just might not be as creamy??

How did it turn out llogins?  Probably not as creamy as proper risotto but tasty all the same.

Don't worry about it. Heston Blumenthal uses basmati as do a number of top chefs in Spain.  Just pretend you did it on purpose - you're at the cutting edge of risotto-making!

It would be great to hear how this turned out, llogins.  As Judy said, probably not so creamy (perhaps that would depend upon whether or not you rinsed the rice before you used it), but it should still have the lovely taste of risotto.

I like your thinking Rogizoja  ;D
It turned out really good actually, not quite as creamy, but it was still so very tasty!!! Good to now know that if I ever don't have any aborio rice in the cupboard I can use long grain  :D
