Moving Thermie from Dubai to Canada? Voltage issues!
« on: June 08, 2015, 07:44:52 am »
Hi all,

I bought my Thermie here in Dubai and can't live without it. However, we are moving to Canada where voltage is 120 rather than 240.

Does anyone have experience with this? I have been suggested two options:
a. install one power point in my kitchen that is 240 rather than 120 but that seems not great as nothing else would work there and might result in many fried appliances if not closely monitored, and
b. use an up/down converter but they are big black boxes that sit on the counter top and take up precious space, and not sure if they are good in the long term for daily use.

I could sell my existing one here and buy another, but thought I'd see if anyone has advice before I do that.

Many thanks.

Hello Alison, I cannot help you but hopefully someone on here has had some experience in these matters.  Maybe it would be easier to sell and buy again in Canada.  Good luck with the move and I hope you sort your query out.

I'm afraid I am of no use to you either. Good luck with getting things worked out.

Sorry I've no practical advice for you. But, I moved from Australia to the U.S. Last year and didn't want to use up/down transformer either so decided to see my tmx in Australia and buy a new one when I arrived here. Since arrival I have found out they stopped selling tmx' s in the U.S. In 2012! If you do sell, you would have no probs buying a replacement in Canada.

Best wishes with your decision and move to a colder climate.
