Anyone know what that little hole is under the TM bowl, at the back and to the left?
What happens if food goes down there?

You mean in the machine, not the bowl? I assume it's some kind of locking mechanism. I get stuff down there and worry too.

Because I noticed a tiny bit of flour in the base, under the bowl the other day, I started worrying about that hole. Anyway, seeing as know one seems to know anything about it, I have just phoned Thermomix UK and they tell me that we have to be very careful NOT to get anything down that hole. Apparently, the TM31 wasn't built the same way and didn't have the hole. The lady i spoke to wondered how I got anything in that area, but, as I said to her, if you have flour (or the like) on the top lip of the bowl, when you lift it out, it could easily get down there. Anyway, it seems us TM5 owners need to be very vigilant and careful not to spill anything or get anything near that hole. Scary or what?

When I vacuum, I try to get any stray bits out, but it's not easy because you can't see what's there.

Thanks for the warning. What happens if we do get something in there I wonder?

I have no idea, but I'm told it's not good. Apparently, that hole goes down into the "works".
I think there should be a warning in the instruction book.
I was working with cocoa powder today and it gets everywhere.
Just have to be extra careful, I guess.

Past94x. I was just cleaning under my 5 and happened to glance down the hole I think you mean. It goes straight to the bottom of the machine, sort of like an overflow hole. Is that the one you mean?

Oh heck. Why didn't I check for myself?
You're absolutely right cookie1, that hole goes right through and out at the bottom. Just like an overflow. I thought it was weird to have such a vulnerable gap in the base of the machine.
I just didn't think to check that, at all, before I made the phone call.
I rang Thermomix UK and they told me never to get crumbs etc down there, as it was definitely not a good thing!!!
That is rubbish, I now realise. Thank goodness, I have been paranoid when working with flour etc.
I am seeing my demonstrator on Monday and will talk to her about it. I'll report back to you all.
Thanks so much cookie1, for having the brains to check. I feel much happier now.
I had visions of tiny crumbs, flour granules etc going down that hole and accumulating over the months.

It does look like an overflow doesn't it. I was quite shocked when I could see light through it. Then I had a good look.

His is due to visit me in March and will take delivery of the TM31 then.
It's all ready for him. I shall give him a demo and he'll take it away.
He lives on the Isle of Wight, so i don't see him that often in the winter.
I'm sure he'll love it, like I did, but I've said that if he doesn't, I want it back.
He's much more of an adventurous cook than me and will be trying all sorts of things, I'm sure.
I hope he will join this forum, too.
I am loving the TM5. It's so nice to use and looks fabulous.
I have made tons of things in it in the two weeks I've had it - all lovely.
I especially like the Mulligatawny Soup from the Great British isles cookbook. It's the best soup i have ever eaten and almost a meal in itself.

I'm sure your DB is going to love the TM31. You should encourage him to join the Forum LOL
