Melbourne Earthquake
« on: September 22, 2021, 02:12:35 am »
Marina I hope you and your buildings are ok. Also Chookie, Mab, and KAtie. And anyone I have forgotten.
Thinking of you all, earthquakes are so spooky. Take care.

Thanks Cookie.  We certainly felt it here, the house shook, cupboard doors flew open, china rattled but nothing broken.  DH checked outside and we have  a couple of cracks in the brick work and a few inside as well but nothing major.  I hope everyone else is ok.

Thanks for your kind thoughts, Cookie. DH and I were at my desk and I noticed my computer monitor moving slightly for a few seconds then the ground rolled and, being a NZ'er, I knew immediately what it was.  It was the first earthquake I had felt for decades!

We were very lucky and are fine with no building damage. It is quite funny, when we did our renovations 2 years ago the builders said the engineer had specified so much steel reinforcing in the building that the entirety of our neighbourhood could fall down, but our building would still be standing ... little did they think! Actually we don't think there was any damage to any buildings in our immediate area.

All goes well for future earthquakes then Marina, that’s comforting to know. As a Mum I can’t help but worry that there will be more.

They say there will be more over the next weeks and perhaps months,Judy, but they shouldn't be as strong as that one yesterday morning.  I hope that is the case.
