Hi, i just blitzed up a cake of "sard soap" in my TMX, about 12 seconds, speed 7,  and added it to my normal washing powder, and my husbands clothes have come out fantastic.
I have washed greasy towels, from our ute's, and work clothes, and it is a much better result than stain remover sprays.

I am going to make up the washing powder today too.

Good idea, I have some Sard left over from when I made the goo, ithis would be a good way to use it up.  Thankyou for the idea.

Oobie, sounds good.    I found a large bottle of wool mix in the back of the cupboard.      It must be 10 years old!.   Does anyone remember the home made wool mix made with a packet of Lux soap flakes ?  I think it was 1 packet of Lux flakes, 1 cup Metho. and either 1 cup or 1 small bottle of Eucalyptus oil. Mix all together in a large jar.  The 10 year old mix had dried and separated so I put it into the T.M bowl with 2 cups of hot water and zapped it a few times. I have been adding about 1 dessert spoon to a wash.    It seems to be doing an excellent job with a beautiful perfume.

 I had a dreadful stain on my rug in the lounge room - I think the wheelchair is responsible but can't work out how 
Haven't been able to get down on the floor and scrub it until yesterday.  I sprayed it first with stain remover because it looked like grease then I used straight washing machine goo - it came out quite easily.

Chookie - think that was a small bottle of eucy oil - but I seem to have mislaid my Martha Gardner's book of household hints !!  Might have gone in the divorce !!  Had troubles getting Lux flakes a couple of years ago.

 Thermomixer,                     I suppose any pure soap would do if zapped in the T.M.

Thanks for the hint Obbie. I think I'll try it. While my DH is fixing up his old cars he gets filthy and I use a fair bit of stain remover.

when I bought the borax from Woolies, there was the same recipe for home made washing powder only with some stain removing soap. was going to try with sard and try and determine the quantities next time as I made so much, but perhaps will just mix up one or two bars with what I've made so far as I don't think that you could go much wrong. Will measure and report tho when I am up to this stage.

So you grind up a bar to make the powder?

Yes - just grind it up and then mix in with normal washing powder to help improve cleaning ability of the normal powder.

I found some Sard powder in the cupboard that DH had bought to wash in the caravan. I added some of that to the washing machine powder and will use it up. The first wash seemed good but there weren't any filthy, greasy clothes in it.
