Oh yes Cookie, I won't eat fruit cake any other way lol thanks to a very close friend of my Mum's who was English. That was the only way we had it growing up.

Guess it's not far from the fruit breads that are often served withe cheese in restaurants.

Yes it is failsafe if you peel the pears. If you want me to put up any of the cake/slice failsafe recipes which use the jam let me know. I havent converted many of them yet but can still post for you.

Hi Rivmum - have you already posted some of these recipes, and I've missed them?  If not, could you give me a couple, please?  I'm going to make this jam tomorrow with some of our pears.  Thanks!  :-*
