Hi all
« on: November 24, 2009, 11:57:50 am »
I have been drooling about these machines for what feels like years and have finally booked a demo for next week.  I've worn down my DH, so I've got the go ahead, but now having doubts which I'm sure the demo will fix. There's just so much pressure to use an appliance regularly when its so $$.

Argh... anyway I'm still researching TM and its occupying every waking thought (and alot of time online!).  Everything I read just says 'go on do it'.  So hopefully this time next week I'll have one on the way.  I'm worried about how noisy it might be more than anything.

Bye,

Deb

Hi and welcome Debs and  CONGRATULATIONS on being our 1000th member.

That's wonderful news about the Thermomix, you will never regret it. The noise is really only a concern (to me anyway) when you crush ice or mill things like chick peas. It is only for a very short time so it's over before it starts, sort of.

Your DH will love the machine.

Hi Deb, bet you didn't know the fuss that would be made of you when you decided to join this forum.  Our 1000th member, lucky you.  Yes, the TM31 is noisy but they reckon the model before was even noisier ??? ???  If you have young children you may have to pick your time to use it but it is only for certain things that the noise level is high.  You will get used to it though.  It is not the person who is in charge of the dials it bothers but more likely the person sitting reading the paper nearby who nearly goes through the roof when you start making sorbet ;D  ;D ;D ;D  It pays to warn them.  Have fun and let us know how the demo goes - make sure DH is there as this will help win him over.

Wow!! 1000!!   :o Good on ya Debs! I'm sure all the yummy and VERY healthy things that come out of the TMX will far surpass the worry of noise - my kids love the noise! They come running to the kitchen to find out what yummy thing is getting made next!  :D But really if you have ever had a fridge that crushes ice or a hammer mill that processes grain you'll find they are jobs that really can not be done with out noise.  ;) Hope you are able to get one so you can be sharing all your yummy converted recipes. :)

Thanks everyone.  :)    No I didn't know the fuss. But it was the pressure of being the 1000th member that made me post, I'd've probably lurked a bit longer ...  ;)

Well the blender is noisy too - so I'm rationalising it all.  The kids are addicted to banana smoothies at the moment and i use frozen bananas for it. And the sorbets etc should reduce the ice cream cost!

And I like the idea of only buying one type of sugar and grinding it to the required texture.  Eliminate all the types of sugar from my pantry. What else can I phase out of the pantry?  I'd love to reduce its size.

DH will be at the demo - its at my place and he's been told not to go out!

Anyone from Canberra - where do people go to get grains etc from?
Thanks,
deb

My pantry has changed shape, but not size.  There are very few boxes, and not a lot of cans anymore.  But lots of jars of nuts, seeds, grains and dried fruit.  There are also bottles of homemade jam, homemade passata sauce, homemade nutella.  So definitely a healthy pantry.  And the freezer is similar.  Not smaller, but no boxes anymore.  But lots of containers of frozen berries, frozen sauces, leftovers, bread, butter.....I guess you get the picture.

Ohh, and two types of sugar - rapadurra and organic white.  Instead of white, brown, caster and icing.
