recipes and temperatures
« on: November 30, 2010, 08:52:19 am »
Hi,
I am new to thermomix (and loving it!)...I just wanted to ask a question about temperatures. Say, for example, the recipe says melt butter 50 degrees for 30 secs. I find the temperature does not reach 50 deg in the 30 secs. Am I doing it right? Or can you pre-heat the bowl to 50 degrees before setting the speed.
Thanks

No that's fine, just do it as per the recipe they are all from cold (or whatever temp the bowl was at before that instruction started).

Sometimes if it is very cold (as it is here now, 5 inches of snow and still falling  :'( :'( ), you may need to increase the time a bit.  For instance, if the butter is meant to melt and hasn't, then just process it for a few more secs and check  it, and keep on doing so until it is melted.

For some things, the actual timing isn't that signficant - for instance if it is soup cooking for 15 minutes or so, then it probably matters less.

I know when I first got my TMX, I was obsessed with getting the timings right and the measurements totally accurate, but now I'm a bit more gung-ho about it all and it's become more instinctive.

Hope this helps - and don't be afraid to keep asking questions....

Welcome mrselliot. Are you in snow country or hot country?  I'm glad you are enjoying your TMX.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.
