Frangipane Fruit Slice

Festive Book and 2010 Calendar

Tweaking
I made a few changes to this purely through necessity. I only used 100g of pistachios as that was all I had.I didn't put almond oil as I didn't have any and I didn't put chocolate over it as I didn't think it needed for an everyday goodie. Also didn't put pistachios on the top of the slice as I had run out.

The taste is absolutely wonderful. The mix of flavours is truly unbelievable. I hate marmalade but I made some for this and the taste of it in the slice is lovely. We are having it as something to have with coffee, not as sweets. I put it in a swiss roll tray and it seems a good size.
The pastry is lovely, it was fairly warm yesterday when I made it so I had a little trouble with rolling it out but it was the weather not the recipe.
I will definitely be making this again and next time may use all almonds in the mix and possibly put something different on the top.The change of toppings is probably unlimited. The brandy seems lovely in it, but I don't suggest smelling it in the bowl mixed with the marmalade as it is VERY potent within the confines of the bowl.

Recipe 5/5
Flavour 5/5

Thanks for this review Cookie1.  At the festive cooking class we had so many bits and pieces on our plate to try that I couldn't work out if I liked this one or not.  I decided I didn't but that may have been because of all the other flavours I was mixing with it.  Obviously served on it's own, it is very nice. At least now I would give it a go if I was looking for a slice of some description thanks to your review.  :-* :-*

I liked it at the festive class but I feel that it didn't have the oomph that it does having made it myself. It has quite strong flavours. I knew that I liked other frangipane type things so thought I would give it a go.

Good work - maybe they weren't as generous with the brandy.  You did only use 50g- not the bottle?  ;)

Here is the belated photo. It should show pistachios but I ran out.
