Recipe review - Tenina's pretzels
« on: May 02, 2010, 01:08:54 pm »
Recipe Name:  Pretzels
Book Namehttp://tenina.com/2009/03/these-pretzels-are-making-me-thirsty/
Tweaking details:  None
Review:  Very easy, very tasty
Score: (out of 5*):  5/5

Next time I will halve the bicarb solution.  i read VeryHappyJan's review of another recipe where she said the same thing (this recipe seemed to be from a book?).  I just did rock salt topping but would love to try a sweet version next time - probably cinnamon sugar.  So very yummy.  DH said they were the best he's had and he's had the real deal soft pretzels before.

Versaceyoyo, these are in the Festive Flavour book so that is probably the one that VHJ reviewed.  It is exactly the same as this one except for the amount of yeast.  The recipe book says 4 teaspns yeast which seems an awful lot for 550g flour. Yours look perfect so I think I will change my book to 2 tspns. They did these at the Christmas cookery class and although we only got to taste a very small piece, I wasn't that impressed with the look or the taste.  Yours however, makes me want to try this recipe for myself with perhaps the cinnamon option.

In the book it says you can make these for Christmas early in the month of December and freeze unbaked. To bake, partially thaw and add 2-3 minutes to the baking time.

OK thanks JD for clarifying re the book.  At first I wasn't that taken with the taste, but by the second one I had decided that they were delicious!  They really grew on me.  I don't think you can lose with butter and lots of salt as flavouring.
