A few questions before I take the plunge - UK
« on: August 20, 2010, 11:13:32 pm »
I have been lurking around the site for a while getting to know more about the Thermomix and the recipes etc  before I finally take the plunge and order one - just wanted to ask a few more questions

1. Have other purchasers felt that their health has actually benefited from properly prepared meals using the Thermomix? I have to cater for an elderly parent who is eating far too much processed and sweet stuff to be nutritionally balanced.  I'm looking to prepare tastier and healthier meals without having to spend hours in the kitchen and was hoping that the Thermomix might help?

2. I am not cooking for a large growing family and wondered if the Thermomix might not be just an excess for two people?

I used to enjoy cooking a lot but recently have somewhat lost my mojo about it - hoping that the Thermomix might bring it back!

Hi VP,  I would say that the TMX would be ideal.  There are only 2 of us and I use it every day.   For an elderly person it is terrific,  especially the soups and stews.   The Varoma is also excellent for steaming, vegies and fish.   Bread is especially easy, and you know exactly what is in it..... more grains for extra fiber.  I could go on for ever,  but you have been lurking so you know.   Good luck.

Hi vintagepaint, welcome to the forum at last.  I agree with everything Chookie says, we also are only 2 and I take food around to my elderly Mum.  It is nice to know they are getting good, wholesome food and a variety they were not used to. If you make a full recipe, you can often freeze half for later or alternatively, probably only need to cook 4 times a week with all the food the TMX can produce. You will want to use it everyday though - there are great bread, dessert & cake recipes on here too. Sometimes you will find yourself making something - just because you can! eg pizza sauce, worchestershire sauce, chilli sauce, all things we all used to buy preTMX.  You will love it  ;D ;D

Many thanks for this help - yes I n eed to cook food and take to my elderly Mum who lives close - at the moment it's all too easy for her to eat ready meals and all that processed junk from the supermarket  - I cannot think that there is any nutritional value at all. So hoping the Thermomix can help!

Hi Vintage Paint your enthusiasm for cooking will return if you buy a Thermomix.I enjoy the fact that you can cook a whole meal in the TM.Personally I think that food tastes better. When I look at recipes now, I think can I do it in my TM? Have a demo and see the TM in action, you will love it.

Vintagepaint, there are 3 of us and I use my machine at least 3 times a day on average.

We have certainly been eating a much healthier diet since we got it. We had a good diet before but now we can eliminate all the nasty numbers by cooking everything from scratch.

I wish I had an elderly Mum to feed, she would have loved the TMX. Although I would imagine she would have had one of her own.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Hi Vantage Paint, dont hesitate There are only my Husband and I, He has had surgery for bowel cancer and I am a diabetic type 2. The thermomix will be very helpful in producing food for elderly people - especially if their digestive system is compromised. We have not had it long enough to see the benefits yet but I had become so bored ith cooking that I had resorted to preparing the easiest things I could lay my hands on - especially takeaways!!
I have stopped buying commercial bread as making my own in the TMX is a piece of cake!!
It is also so time saving. Good luck and go to as many demos as you can, you might also try a cooking class if they have them in UK

Hi vintagepaint ... I was convinced to buy one exactly because I want to have more control over what I am eating ... I have to follow a gluten free diet and the TMX saves me so much time [and I am also convinced it will pay for itself in time too!] ... I get such a kick out of making my own bread in record time [very expensive to buy] and I love throwing the rice in and milling my own rice flour as part of the very quick recipe.  I still get a kick out of it like I'm doing a magic trick!

Cheers,
Alison

PS  My husband was pretty sceptical and in only a week has become a fan!
