Another Thermomix Virgin
« on: September 17, 2010, 10:57:19 am »
Hi I've been lurking and posting for a little while - having finally disposed of all the kitchen stuff I never use I had made the decision to finally acquire my very own when to my utter amazement it turned up on my doorstep as a present from my best friend to whom I had been talking about it quite a lot !

So now after unpacking and looking at the machine for some time, reading the manual  I'm wondering where to start, what to do etc

Exciting and scary!

Any tips from other Thermomix virgins and new users gratefully received

I am in the UK so would be interested to know which of the cookery books any UK users find the best

what a wonderful present from a wonderful friend  ;D I would recommend making the home made stock cubes on p72 of the Fast & Easy book. We have something similar in Australia, however without the parmesan cheese and white wine, and using only 150g salt. it is a very useful and economical recipe, and you will find that it is specified quite a bit throughout the TM books.

so welcome to the forum, and we look forward to hearing more from you  :D

Welcome to the forum vintagepaint - what a lovely friend you have.  Perhaps you should organise yourself a demo through one of your consultants rather than just go it alone.  If your friend has one too, maybe she/he can have an afternoon with you to show you the finer points.

Welcome and wow what a great present!
I'd just find a recipe you like the sound of and go for it.
The vegie stock concentrate is a must for early on though (I used the one on here I think).
Depends what you like I guess - a main course? I love the stroganoff. Or a dessert - custard is an easy one or a cake mixture.

What a wonderful friend you have Vintage paint.I like the Fast and Easy Indian Cookery Book and the Fast and Easy Cooking as well but I don't think you can beat some of the recipes developed by the forum members.

Welcome Vintagepaint. You certainly have a wonderful friend. Get together with them and start cooking. Lots of the recipes on this forum are tried and true and often have different versions and tweaks about them. Give some of them a go.
